Mexico City Awards 2018:

Most Improved:

Winner: Jarryn Geary

While Geary has always been a solid defender, he's SC scoring has been questionable. However, this year he started in great fashion and was able to have a consistent year, lifting his average from 66 the year before to 81 which is a career high for the veteran. Geary provided lots of help and direction for the Suns' young backline.

Geary beat other contenders Jordan Cunico, Darcy Byrne-Jones and Jared Polec.

Best First Year Player:

Winner: Aaron Naughton

Drafted with pick 24 in last year's International draft, Naughton was the last of the Suns' picks. However, he had the biggest impact as a ready made intercept defender, with the ability to play forward and has shown signs that he's going to be an exciting player for the Suns' rebuild.

Naughton beat other contenders James Worpel and Luke Davies-Uniacke.

Coaches Award:

Winner: James Sicily

In a year where we would've struggled to name a leadership group, the Italian Stallion became a genuine captain option after showing glimpses of this last year. He averaged 105 points and even though he missed a few games during he year through suspension and injury, he's proven why he's going to be the cornerstone of the club's rebuild. Sicily > Rockliff > Gibbs

Sicily beat other contenders Jared Polec, Jarryn Geary and Lachie Hunter.

Best Performance:

Winner: James Sicily

Sicily had a stellar year with 8 110+ scores and he caps it off by taking home another award. His highest score came in Round 7 against Pacific, where he racked up 29 disposals, 14 marks, 1 goal and 145 SC points.

Top three performances of 2017:
1st. James Sicily 145 Points - Round 7 v Pacific
2nd. Lachie Hunter 142 Points - Round 3 v Christchurch
3rd. James Harmes 139 Points - Round 8 v PNL

Mexico City Awards 2019:

Most Improved:

Winner: Luke Dunstan

Dunstan has gone from fringe player to captain material in 12 months. Dunstan has always been a high scoring fantasy player since a junior however 2019 was the year it all came together for the midfielder, averaging 95 points per game.

Dunstan beat other contenders Shai Bolton, James Worpel and Jack Silvagni.

Best First Year Player:

Winner: Sam Walsh

Walsh was a steal at pick three and had one of the greatest first years of all time. Walsh is currently averaging 90 points per a game which is ridiculous for a first year player. What a gun  8)

Walsh beat other contenders Jordan Clark, Jackson Hately and Charlie Constable.

Coaches Award:

Winner: Sam Walsh

Walsh has quickly been a fan favourite for the Suns' fans, but he's also a coach favourite. Walsh is close to the first picked in the side already and will be for many more years to come  :-*

Walsh beat other contenders Lachie Hunter, Nic Newman and James Worpel.

Draft Review

2018 International Draft

Pick 3: Sam Walsh - we were rapt that Walsh slipped to #3, the kid is a gun  8)

Pick 6: Jackson Hately - he's has already posted some decent scores in his first year at AFL level, won't be long before he's a regular at AFL level and is dominating

Pick 17: Chayce Jones - he's already broken into the senior Crow's side and got some game time as a forward but looks like a promising mid for our future

Pick 20: Riley Collier-Dawkins - RCD is yet to debut but won't be too far away. Has had some decent games at VFL level, but is still raw

Pick 30: Jordan Clark - can't believe he slipped to #30 either, Clark was a bargain and looks to be one of the most exciting draftees of the lot, being an important part of the Suns back 4

Pick 40: Ben Cavarra - injuries have ruined his season, however he has been getting into some form at VFL level. Would be a good chance to get some game time next season

Pick 76: Jake Tarca - Jake was a speculative pick this late in the draft. Doesn't look like getting any game time any time soon but we'll continue to track him

2017 International Draft

Pick 2: Luke Davies-Uniacke - LDU started the season in blistering form, he will be a gun SC scorer just needs a good run at it with the Roos

Pick 11: Charlie Constable - Charlie also started the season on fire, however injury and form has seen him stuck in the VFL for most of the second half of the year. Nevertheless he's another gun ball winner we have

Pick 12: James Worpel - we backed Worps in last year selecting him with a first rounder, and it's only taken him one season to put up some premo numbers! Worps has been one of our most consistent players in only his second season and along with Walsh will be one of the key players of our future

Pick 24: Aaron Naughton - another bargain, we were very lucky Astronaught slipped to us in the second round. He is one of the most promising juniors going around and has already some massive scores
