DPP will price him around the 500k mark, which means that he'll have to get back up to ~100 to be worth the cash
now
will he be getting back into the midfield (Beams has gone, but Adams won't continue to be sub, and I'll be damned if Greenwood doesn't play every game) so he'll probably stick forward

given that he puts minimal effort into NAB anyway (so you can't really tell how he'll be scoring) then it's a speculative punt if you pick him

based on this season: opening rounds
Brisbane: 96
Adelaide: 79
StKilda: Did not play
Essendon: 57 and 122 (122 in the anzac game)
Carlton: 102
so that actually rates him LOWER than his price (if he scored exactly the same as this year) - so he'd actually lose value by rd7 (93.7 season average, 91.2 average of that period)
plus he's another year older, and may spend even more time up forward

I personally will be sticking with the likes of Dusty/Lids, who are a lot more consistent and pose the higher ceiling (and are still key midfield components of their sides)

and from a more interesting note, it appeared that he'd lost his ability to score well this year
sure he was getting a few tons (8 tons in a 9 week period) but only 2 of them were over 120
he can still notch them up, but (in my opinion) the big scores that we know and love are behind him

also, you could've said the same about Dangerfield this season, but there were no end of coaches that were maddened by him (especially with a last-6 game average of only 89)

Ricochet

He played fwd because he was carrying an injury man. If fit he won't play fwd and is easily ahead of Greenwood and Adams

pommyadam

he's also 30+

I personally can't see Greenwood not playing midfield,
and then Adams WILL be on the move if he carries on in the vest

Swan's an upgrade target for me - I'm in two minds anyway, and won't be swayed by his NAB performances

Don't know what you're so worried about Pom, regarding the fact that Swan won't be getting mid time man..

Pendlebury, Swan, Sidebottom and Greenwood are the only 4 players I can see playing midfield full time, with others rotating through there.. Pendles (110), Swan (133), Beams (116) all went and averaged those numbers back in 2012 proving that more than one player can score consistently well, and I don't expect Greenwood to push 100-105 but the other three are fully capable of increasing their outputs to all over 110+. As I said, those four players will be the cog of our midfield with JT/Adams/ Varcoe etc to have stints running through there. Swan has to be a lock, he is a AF and DT pig, and most people are forgetting that before his imjury which hampered his year, he didn't drop below a 118 average since 2008 which is insane.

Tend to agree.
Except I reckon Greenwood is a huge chance to go 105+.

I was thinking Greenwood would be a good Luke Ball replacement. Swan goes back into the midfiled after a full pre-season free of injury and replaces Beams ? Varcoe will play forward

Don't think I can resist having Swan in my forward line from the beginning. Will watch closely pre-season and make a decision from there.

but why? Swan's notorious for putting as little effort into preseason as possible

that's why I'm avoiding, I won't be able to tell if he's 100% until rd1 (where he looked VERY sluggish this year, especially early)

Basically just want to hear he's travelling well and will be playing in the middle  ;)

He was sluggish last year early but as we know it was a bad year for Swan due to injury.

His first 5 games of 2014 were .. 96,68,90,105,145

Last 5 games dropped his average considerably as he was struggling late with injury missing rounds 18,19,20

last 5 games..  Round 15 (92) Round 16 (82) Round 17 (57) Round 21 (96) Round 22 (38)

Previous years show he doesn't normally start slowly.

First 5 games:

2013 - 123,117,109,130,120

2012 - 102,116,109,134,171

2011 - 137,162,116,131,104

2010 - 143,84,112,119,83

With DPP status it is now too risky not to start him. Still capable of a 100 average so definitely a lock imo.
