Profile

Pickett is probably the most explosive player in the draft. He has many similar traits to Brad Hill, with his outside run and athleticism being the highlights however Pickett has been able to impact the scoreboard more as a junior. He didn't have a massive Champs (1 goal from 6 games, 68.6% disposal efficiency) and missed out on All Australian selection however he did get senior exposure South Fremantle which will help speed up his development. Although lightly framed he has the potential to play some games in 2015 but is unlikely to replicate the numbers of Hill for at least a few years yet.

Knightmare - Often with the most damaging outside types it is rare that they can find the footy in bunches and while Pickett is not an elite accumulator he is still a good accumulator for an outside type which is really critical and greatly adds to his value because he is someone where he will do great damage with his touches and through finding it a lot also will break the lines with frequency rather than only occasionally which is what makes him a real top quality prospect in my mind. He is likely not a round one starter and will likely need to prove himself first in the 2s for a team but with the linebreaking ability and energy he can inject into games he is someone I imagine a team would feel compelled to give senior games to at some point.

Mad Monday - Jarrod Pickett is capable of playing as a rebounding defender as well as a small forward, although he is most dangerous as a midfielder. Down back, Pickett's football smarts, creativity, flair and quality disposal allows him to slice through opponents on a turnover. He has fantastic goal sense and his agility and elite speed, making him a huge threat as a small forward. In midfield he's a nifty inside-out ball winner with great, clean hands and a freakish ability to dodge players and move the ball on. Pickett, despite the damage he does with his touches, does not win enough of the football. He averaged under 14 disposals a game at the U18 Championship. At WAFL Colts level, Pickett has no trouble finding the footy, he averages over 20 disposals and 2 goals a game, however when representing South Fremantle in WAFL seniors he has averaged only 11 disposals per game, these numbers should increase as he builds on his endurance.

Bound For Glory - Pickett has all the qualities that can take him from being a dominant junior to a quality midfielder in the AFL. His determination to make the grade has been apparent in his attitude towards his own fitness. His skinfolds were not ideal two years ago, but now he is one of the fittest and most explosive players. His other impressive traits centre around his ball use and also his defensive efforts. Pickett is an excellent kick, but more importantly, his vision and ability to find the right option are impressive for an 18 year old. He is strong enough to win his own inside ball, but he probably won't play much as an inside midfielder at AFL level.

Pros - Goal kicker

Cons - Doesn't get a heap of the ball, low tackle numbers, strikes me as a good potential sub

Fantasy Prospects - At his likely price I can't see Pickett being a legitimate pick either to start with or during the season.

Prediction - 38-42

Toga

Looks like a sharp player, but think there will be better rookie options next year for the forward line.

Nice work Craigy, I'm enjoying hearing more about the rookies :)

Sweetness

Unlikely to start next year I would think.

LF

This kid is a gun.
He has his head screwed on right and is a great player.Everyone at my boys footy club speak so highly of him.
I`d like him at West Coast but now not looking likely but that`s alright let another club develop him then he can come home and play for us then :P
But I probably would look elsewhere for a forward rook I don`t think he`ll get much playing time this year.

stew42

He'll be one of those great football players, but not so much on the fantasy side

powersuperkents

Too many similarities to Tambling for me to ever consider  :P
