Essendon veteran Jason Winderlich is set to retire at the end of the season.

In a surprise move given his electrifying form at times this season, Yahoo!7 understands Winderlich has told his teammates he won't be going on in 2015.

There is speculation he will return to Gippsland to play with old mates next season.

Winderlich has had to battle a run of injuries through his career and is hugely popular at the Bombers.

Thats a shame since he has been so good this year.

Winderlich is a gun when fit. It's just a shame that injuries have cut his career short.
