A Case for D4 Suckers D5 McDonald

Playing around with the team as per normal, and up until now I have had Suckling at D5 and McDonald at D6, with 4 premo's before them

Although the line looks extremely solid and doesn't require much work throughout the season, I cant help but feel that I have too much invested there, and its the lowest scoring line

I am now thinking of going with 3 Premo's (All mids from last year) then these two at 4 and 5

As we get closer and closer to rd1, surely 3 of the following defensive rookies will get games and allow us to field one at D6 and bench the other two

Cameron, Clurey, Langford, Tippett, Cutler, Langdon, Georgiou

And there are the slightly higher priced Webster, Griffiths, Wood, Laidler, Martin

Being the weakest line, I really think fielding a rookie at D6 makes sense, and getting the mids and fwd right is more important. Upgrading the backline is always the last line to do anyway

Thoughts?

Sounds like you have it right RD...dont overthink it...your opponents just may not be so intellectual....macca at d6 sounds good to me... ;D

Being the weakest line goes both ways. It also means the rookies score the worst, so the less premos you have, the more rookies you have. Personally, I'm a lot more confident with the defence premiums I have picked in comparison to the forward premiums I have. It also means that with just the 4 midfield premiums, I can assess which ones are the best of the best and aim to bring them all in, rather than possibly having 1 guy who is just behind the rest and isn't quite worth the trade until the very end of the season.

Good point GL

There are plenty of def premiums to select, making it easy to pick 4 then have suckers and macca at 5 and 6

The fwd line is a mess this year - besides Danger and Dusty and the rest is a crap shoot

Yeah exactly. After Danger and Dusty I have no idea who will be the next best 4 or so forwards. Whereas in defence, after Mitchell and McVeigh, you can be pretty confident that the rest will all average around the same, so doesn't really matter who you pick out of guys like Hanley, Hibberd, Hurn, Simpson, Thompson, etc.

RaisyDaisy

Exactly

At this stage Ive got McVeigh, Mitchell, Hibberd and Simpson and will change Hibberd to Thompson/Hanley/Enright if he misses rd 1, and they are all comfy picks

As for the forwards, that's where I am going light because NFI who will be good, Danger, Martin, Pav, Caddy, Higgins, Rohan

Doesn't look good, but all other all lines are solid

It's a total lottery up FWD. Mine is currently very similar - Danger, Dusty, Caddy, Daniher, Higgins, Kennedy (Rohan, JKH)

If Daniher, Higgins and Kennedy can each average 70 points I should hopefully make $350-$400k between these three

RaisyDaisy

Now that I have Caddy and Higgins at F4/5 I am really looking at going with Sucker/McDonald at D4/5

D6 would be a rookie, but I think its fine because I am confident that at least 3 of Langford/Langdon/Clurey/Cameron/Cutler/Georgiou will get named rd1 and play enough games

By going this way it allows me to get another premo mid and move Beams from M4 to M5. By doing this it means I no longer have Tyson in my team, and Aish is the other mid rookie I wouldn't have, so I will miss out on their cash generation, but the team would look like this if I follow the above

DEF: McVeigh, Mitchell, Simpson, Suckling, McDonald, Rookie (Rookie, Rookie) 3 of the above 6 six listed

MID: Ablett, Pendles, Watson, Libba, Beams, Michie, Polec, Ellis (Dunstan, Crouch)

RUC: Cox, Sandilands (Derickx, King)

FWD: Danger, Dusty, Pavlich, Caddy, Higgins, McDonaugh (JKH, Impey)

I can downgrade Cox to Leuy/NicNat/McEvoy and upgrade Crouch to Aish

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Forward line is set. Danger and Dusty are the only premo locks and Pav is there for value, and I would rather go with the mid pricers because they will be easy to upgrade to premos later and it gives me time to see who the premo fwds will be this year

I can downgrade Jobe/Libba to Tyson, then turn the D6 rookie into a premo def, but I am thinking I should be able to field a rookie at D6, pick the 3 and rotate them around each week to field D6

Doggoneit

Personally I am not convinced you will get 3 out of the 6 - have you considered trying to work Webster in to give you some JS

RaisyDaisy

With Clurey,Cameron and Langdon all playing in week 1 of round 1 it gives me the option of this approach

If two of them get named, then I will back myself in and go with this structure

If only one of them gets named, I will downgrade Jobe or Libba to Tyson and upgrade the rookie to Enright/Hibberd etc

So I have a fall back plan :)

Will also start with Luey over Cox for the meantime, as it gives me just over 80k in the bank, so I can upgrade Crouch to Aish or Impey to Rohan if either of them don't get named

sounds fair - I also have $98k waiting with fallback plans although I'm pretty confident all my on field rookies have good JS
