Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan injured his lower back during Melbourne's NAB Cup game against Geelong in Alice Springs last Friday.

Hogan presented with soreness following the game, with scans and further examination showing a stress reaction in his lower back.

The club will treat Jesse conservatively based on his symptoms and once he is pain free, he will return to training and playing.

Melbourne Football Manager Josh Mahoney said "It's difficult to put an exact time frame on his return because it's all based on his ability to respond to treatment and rehabilitation. Early signs are positive and he could potentially still play in 2 to 3 weeks or it could be longer; we just need to monitor him closely over the initial period and then a timeframe for his return will become clearer."

Ruled out for another 4-6 weeks...

Put Dawes in that time frame as well, which is contradicted on the website but I thought I saw it somewhere, and this month doesn't look promising.

Interesting to see Roos' response to this with regards to team structure

That it was. But what can they do for key forwards? Our injuries don't make us the most flexible team, unless they chuck Frawley in forward line?

Sigh, the whole situation sucks. So annoying. Yet I find myself caring less and less  :-\

I'm expecting to see Garland, Kent and Viney all in.

Also expect out forwardline to be:

HF: Kent, Dunn, Blease
F: Viney, McDonald/Garland, Michie

Wouldn't be surprised to see Frawley forward, or for Strauss to come in and play as a goalkicking forward.

Personally i'd run with this forward line:

HF: Strauss, Dunn, Kent
F: Howe, Garland , JKH

Roos mentioned changes positions, so I assume that also means backs.

I'd like to see this to go with that ^ forward line:

B: Grimes, Frawley, Trengove
HB: Toumpas, McDonald, Clisby

Overall the full squad i'd like for this round is (with the experimentation):

B: Grimes, Frawley, Trengove
HB: Toumpas, McDonald, Clisby

C: Watts, Vince, Terlich

HF: Strauss, Dunn, Kent
F: Michie, Garland , JKH

R: Pedersen, Jones, Cross

I: Fitzpatrick, Byrnes, Howe
S: Viney

EMER: Spencer, Bail, M.Jones

All in all, slight changes in position for a few players, with those that excel in their roles staying put.
