Best Draw AFTER the byes

I will add all the teams opponents ladder positions after the byes and divide to find a teams opponents avg ladder position

Eg if team A vsed  Melbourne GWS and stkida after the byes, then the avg opponent ladder position will be 17 as 16+17+18/3 =17
* for ability purposes I'm counting essendon as 7th port at 8th etc.

I have done some research and here are the teams:
These numbers are the opponents after the byes avg ladder position from last year

Gold Coast 9.9
Greater Western Sydney 7.6

Melbourne 8.4

Sydney 9.3
West Coast 9
Western Bulldogs 9.4


What does this tell us?

Players from Collingwood, Freo, North and Richmond have easy runs after the byes, so upgrading to a player from them isnt a bad idea.

Stkilda and Carlton have harder draws so offloading players during the byes isnt a bad idea.


This tells me that I could trade a ripe 550k Thomas in round 9 for a dropped 600k Pendles and enjoy his run home.

Good stuff.. Just be aware that ladder positions/form could be a lot different 1/2 way through to the end of last season. This could change the data.

Great work WizzFizz these draws are significant !, i had already planned on bringing Petrie and Pendles in after the byes and now will be looking to match up other upgrades with good draws in the back end of the season..thank you. :)

Based on your data, and if it was to be true come byes, Swan and Goldstein would be the two on my radar to bring in then, possible Cotchin/Deledio if I don't have them and they are firing

Obviously things change, but as of today I expect Dane Swan to be my number 1 upgrade target after the byes
