I know this sounds crazy, has killed me before and is very inconsistent, however after being up on the trade table at the end of last year he said that pain has spurred him on to show the cats his best. An article in January said that Varcoe had come back in the best shape out of all the players and was training stronger than anyone. Any geelong supporters have any knowledge of the position he is most likely to play this year??? What interested me was this in the first NAB Challenge game against Collingwood. Yes I know selwood was out but these stats are pretty impressive and looked like he was playing mainly in the midfield as a contested ball winner.

21 possessions (11 contested), 2 marks (1 contested), 6 clearances, 6 tackles, 5 inside 50's, 1 goal, 1 goal assist in just 60% of game time!!! Also what I found most interesting was that he had a match high 6 centre clearances (3 more than any other player on the ground). Worth considering or just a one off?

Watch him over the next couple has always had the talent and I reckon he's got s point to prove after missing that goal in the prelim. Was there Wednesday night and did look really fit.

At his price and if other cheap options don't come up he may become a no brainer

Cheers guys, another interesting one was billie smedts, the kid has talent and is aiming to cement his spot in the best 22 in an attacking defender role (supercoach friendly role). He is priced at 290K and had 15 possessions (at 80% efficiency), 7 marks, 4 rebound 50's and 3 tackles in 44% game time, not bad at all!

Ricochet

I'd much rather Caddy at that price for some reason. So much value in the fwd line this year, lets hope most of them are fit for round 1

It's not like they were beating up on a weak side, the Pies midfield is quality opposition.....

I'll declare my hand now and say yes I'm a Geelong supporter and I love the Varcoe, I think the kid has talent in spades he just needs to develop consistency.

I think if he was able to get a permanent midfield gig he could be as good as Daniel Wells if not better. He has explosive pace, elusiveness, good skills and is a goal kicker.... He just needs to get his head right.....

In 2010 he averaged 82, so the ability is there. He needs the mifdfield opportunity.

Can impact a game but no fantasy teams just yet.

Id love to see him become SC relevant again, if he did he'd certainly be in my side! I think it all hangs on a midfield role for him....

Looking at him for sure. Like a lot of players in his price range it's certainly a 'watch and act' proposition.

The most important attribute in a breakout, other than having talent, is having a fantasy position and role available for improvement,

I see a spot off half back at Adelaide with Henderson going down, and room in the midfield with no van berlo.
There's room at collingwood off half back with no shaw. Seedsman was very very much on my radar before his injury...

And it's now available at Geelong. No motlop and Christensen frees up an enormous amount of points for the right mid. Varcoe fits the role perfectly. I think we should all watch the cats next game very keenly.
I know he burnt us all last year but sometimes u gotta move on...

Quite a few players in that position and around that price are in the Watch category. Will have to get of the fence soon but forawrd line options for rookies and mid price looks quite good.
