I'm thinking the opposite. With Fasolo, Higgins, Lamb, Rohan, Clark, Bock, Walker at the prices they are (even though a couple won't be ready round 1) and with limited backline rookie options, I think its the year to load up the backline.

Fasolo, Rohan & Lamb are the only real certainties and they don't strike me as the best F5 & F6 alternatives. I'd be all over Walker if available but he won't be, Higgins is also a bit of a gamble, particularly if he doesn't play any pre season matches. One also needs to consider the logistics of planning for the split round. Will people jump on players in the first week, even it means missing out on their preferred option in the second?
Who are better F5 and F6 alternatives?

Hawkins or Caddy for F5 and one of Kennedy-Harris, Kersten, Marksworth & Impey for F6. If I had the funds I'd stick Fasolo in at F6 but that would be to the detriment of another line. My backline is currently 4/1/1, mids are 4/1/3 and ruck 1/1.

I think that the output of Lamb & Rohan will rival that of a rookie, they will probably have better job security but I'm banking on 1 rookie from the above list to average 60-65 points. I'd probably be all over Fasolo if he was at any other club aside from Collingwood, but as we all know, they have an over supply of goal kicking midgets.

Where does Fasolo fit with others such as Kennedy, Blair, Thomas and Dwyer all competing for the same position? Is he a prime candidate for the vest? At the moment, I'm keen to get a guaranteed starter into the line-up. I particularly like Hawkins because he can go large and could feasibly hit 550k if he strings together 5-6 big matches, in which case I'd then look at trading for a more consistent type.

If you're running a 430k player at F5, plus 4 keepers, suckling and a rookie in defense, your midfield must be next to nonexistant... That's basically half your salary cap on 12 players. Still got an entire bench, 8 midfield and 2 ruck spots to fill

My midfield is Ablett, Rockliff, Beams, Murphy, Daisy, Savage or Jack Martin with 4 rookies.

I think we define feasibly differently  :o

You say yourself his consistency is an issue but you're relying on him scoring 5-6 big scores in a row...

He's just your run of the mill KP forward who tends to have hot steaks. Cloke did it last year, both the Riewoldts tend to do it, Walker is another. Confidence is amazing thing when it comes to goal kicking, and I liked what I saw from Hawkins last night.

From rounds 1-6 in 2012 he averaged 101, a figure which would have sent his price into the 500k territory.

From rounds 14-19 he averaged 115, which would have him nudging 600k.

We all know he's capable of turning it on, it just becomes a case of knowing when to fold. Those who selected Cloke last year where laughing all the way to the bank.

Also bear in mind the all important rule changes -

"Players who show strength in the marking contest will also be protected with the inclusion of the word unduly meaning free kicks only paid against a player who "unduly pushes, bumps, blocks or holds
