The Front Bar - Child Board: Compitition Board

Hey,
I was thinking why not have a competitions board, not for fantasy footy comps like SuperCoach and DreamTeam but for FF run comps. This was just what I though might work:

Having it as a child board of The Front Bar.

It would allow all comps to be seen by people like they would be in The Front Bar. But on a separate board so they don't clog up The Front Bar.

I understand some comps are SC or DT specific, but they could just list this in their title e.g. SC-(title)

It might encourage others to start up comps.

A mod could run a sticky topic which stated the winners of all official comps(comps would apply to be listed on this topic), these winners would stay on for one year or until the same comp was ran again.

The mod could organise the comps into tiers, say an award like the Elxam Award would be tier 1 and as such listed at the top, while a less known award might be tier 3

The sticky topic could include both competition awards(won a competition) and voted awards(Elxam Award)

Just a suggestion, cheers

What kind of competitions do you mean? Like leagues in DT and SC, or something else?

LF

They usually get posted in the AFL boards and somtimes the Front Bar

BB67th

Well there is already the 'Other AFL Comps" board, where competitions like that are sometimes run. Otherwise just on the general AFL board. I don't think we need another board now just for this.

LF

Just post it it the Front Bar then as thats where most of the non AFL related trivia etc is posted
We really do not need another board for it

Ringo

There are a number of boards where these comps can be posted

Other AFL Comps if relating to AFL
Other Sports for other Sports - there is already a child board from the Pavilion.

So do not thisnk there needs to be a separate child board in the Front Bar as there are adequate boards to cover what you would be thinking.

LF

The Front bar is for topics such as Tool of the Week and the Elxam awards
Even if there was another board Tool of the Week would still be in the Front Bar regardless as that is where it fits

LF

See the poll you made up top No is leading the poll I expect it will stay that way

Vinny

Not saying it's a horrible idea man, just sayings it not needed so why have it.

Vinny

Yes, if people want to introduce themselves it's there for them. It used to be very popular.

Whereas for your idea, other comps already exists as a board to use.

Vinny

Because there is no need for it..

Front Bar pretty much covers it.

The Introductions board was made in 2011..

The Front Bar has been used without another child board for 3 years, why should it change?

Vinny

Other Comps is a quiet board plenty of space there to hold up the traffic joining..

I am not going to argue with you, you aren't not going to convince and I'm not going to convince you.

Ok, gonna respond to quite a few of these things as been around for a long time so know the process of things :P.

We already do have a Competitions board which is the "Other Comps" board. Feel free to post competitions in there. If there is a specific competition related to a fantasy game (DT, SC, AF), it has usually been run in the main boards for those sections. There has been no problem with that in past seasons. If a new comp comes along as is based on Rising Stars, Brownlow, Coleman, etc, they've usually been run in the AFL section. If there is a non-sport related comp, then can be posted in Front Bar.

And a little thing that will hurt the traffic of the Other Comps board and responses in there. Most newer users don't venture far outside of their fantasy boards, so making a new comp board and moving SC/DT/AF related games into that one (If you wanted in Front Bar), probably only regulars will post there majority of the time. Whereas some games I've played before were in the SC/DT boards and got many other users joining in when they saw the game, not just the ones who post alot everywhere. So if restricting them to a new child board, will limit the amount of people who'll join compared to just posting in the fantasy boards.

Other Comps is fairly inactive so I'm sure it'd be easier to keep such forum based comps in there without much hassle stickying every single competition and then getting like 10+ stickies which is never ideal. If we were to sticky comps in the front bar, having 10+ stickies will really annoy those who have to scroll through a page or two to find out the topic they are searching for.

Also, for your Tier system, we can't sticky things in a certain order for Tier 1 or Tier 3, it's most recent post in the topic that decides the order. And as I said before, we try to limit the stickies in boards because majority of users are only on maybe 20 topics a page which means more scrolling involved. Elxam Awards and all the other ones are a once a year thing, only Personality Of The Year is a year round thread, but just one thread for that award. Elxam's take quite alot of effort and usually take over Front Bar for a night or two (when deciding who takes out the League awards and whatnot) or if people are running the actually ones, take over for a few weeks. But when these awards are made, pretty much off-season so traffic has died down a bit so manageable.

Can certainly see where you're coming from for the board, but m0nty has been reluctant in past to make new boards unless the interest from many is there (e.g. FTP board had to be separate from the Cricket board). If there isn't enough support, don't think it'll happen for you Jazz. Although if you want to run a few comps, can go ahead with them and see if they attract interest. If they get quite a bit, can ask a Mod to sticky it in the relevant board and we'll see if it deserves to be stickied. If enough comps are run throughout the year, then could make a case for a new board next season!

I'm pretty sure that is all over the place but hopefully makes some sense. I'm just tired so it wound up like that :P.

Because the forums are getting bigger! There will soon be 10000 registered users not all active but quite a few will be!

There were about 25% less topics started at FanFooty in 2013 compared to the previous year and 40,000 odd less posts and only 16 pages of content have been created in the Front Bar over the past 12 months. It's not exactly a bustling behemoth.
