could make a big call here and say Thomas will put up similar numbers to murphy if he is fully fit.

Beams is on another level.
Think that's more dependent on Murphy than it is on Daisy. Think Murphy should outscore Daisy by around 5 ppg, but Daisy is much better value.

Agree Beams is on another level, and you'd be insane not to start with him.

kind of depends a little on thomas too. lets not forget last time he was coached by Mick he went 109.3. many are saying murphy are could go 110.

So Beams
at least 1 out of Ablett/Pendles
Thomas

spots becoming a little think in the mids and murphy doesnt beat guys like cotchin, watson, selwood, rocky etc.. so doesnt even come into consideration for me.
Yeah I see Daisy going about 100-105, and Murphy 105-110. Only just put Daisy into my team now, at the expense of Watson. Definitely a number of players ahead of Murphy for me as well.

Both for me, but as a Carlton supporter I've followed Murphys progress the last 3 years and after some set backs last year he is looking all set for a solid year... 110+ is my call also.

Want to agree with u but can't help but feel Thomas will take points off Murphy and Judd's further demise and Gibbs not hurting means that no 1 taggers go straight to Murphy

Mykonos FC

You guys have short memories.
Beams has only put up one good season before last whereas Murphy has been a consistent 110+ player for 3 seasons until last as he got a nasty injury which would have dented his confidence.
I'm going both but gee people are quick to jump all over Murphy when he is arguably a safer buy than Beams who has only put in one big season.

MC

Beams by a country mile. Reason: Less impacted by the tag.

Let's look at the last five games where they were tagged (as recorded by FF stats)

MURPHY
SF 2013 - Tagged by Bird, 69 SC with 25 touches
Rd 23, 2013 - Tagged by Cornes, 130 SC with 23 touches and 3 goals
Rd 22, 2013 - Tagged by Hocking, 98 SC with 22 touches
Rd 21, 2013 - Tagged by Conca, 102 SC with 23 touches
Rd 20, 2013 - Tagged by Wallis, 92 SC with 23 touches
AVG - 98.2 SC

*** Times before in 2013 he was tagged and scored: 51, 75, 118, 73, 105, 57, 99, 98, 114 -- Takes AVG to 91.5 ***

BEAMS
EF 2013 - Tagged by Cornes, 141 SC with 29 touches and a goal
PF 2012 - Tagged by O'Keefe, 92 SC with 27 touches and a goal
SF 2012 - Tagged by Scott Selwood, 154 SC with 30 touches
Rd 22, 2012 - Tagged by Scott Selwood, 123 SC with 30 touches and a goal
Rd 19, 2012 - Tagged by Jones (St Kilda) 144 SC with 32 touches and a goal
AVG - 130.8 SC

*** Times before that in 2012 he was tagged and scored the following: 80, 117, 128 -- Takes AVG to 122.38 ***

So as we can see, Murphy not only gets tagged more often, but when he does he doesn't deal with it as well as what Beams does. This could be attributed to the amount of support surrounding them, but that is irrelevant for this conversation when we are simply comparing the two in terms of SC potential.

To summarise: Beams is significantly underpriced, and it would be stupidity to bring in Murphy at the expense of Beams.

And yes I know i'm looking at stats from 2012 for Beams, but Beams was only 22 then and is certainly improving. He will return at full fitness, with the benefit of a full preseason, and will still have massive support around him in the guts. If anything, his scores might improve with Swan probably spending more time up forward and Pendles still the prime candidate for the opposition tagger.

Awesome work MC, good research. The Pies' mids are much better than the Blues, so as you said, he'll get tagged less. I've got Beams in my side atm.
