After finishing the top 1000 for two straight years, I'm aiming to push that one step further and crack the top 100 this year, if not further. I've been umming and ahhing for a couple of weeks now, but I think I've got my squad in to a position it's likely to keep until NAB cup:

DEF: J. McVeigh, S. Mitchell, R. Henderson, B. Waters, M. Suckling, N. Bock (K. Aylett, A. Browne)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, P. Dangerfield, J. Watson, M. Murphy, D. Beams, D. Tyson, C. Beams, J. Martin (X. Ellis, C. Cain)
RUC: H. McIntosh, A. Sandilands (D. Currie, L. McBean)
FWD: T. Rockliff, N. Naitanui, L. Franklin, C. Rioli, D. Thomas, V. Michie (J. Hogan, M. Thorp)
CASH LEFT: $112,300

I've gone for a weak defence as my high powered defence this year let me down significantly. I personally think Sam Mitchell will be given DEF/MID DPP. I'll keep Ricky Henderson in there as long as he looks likely to continue his rebounding half-back role. Beau Waters is the one I'm most worried about, will have to monitor through the pre-season and NAB cup.

Starting without Pendlebury and Joel Selwood due to the round 8 bye, which has made me look to other options - Jobe Watson and Marc Murphy.

Stock standard mid-priced ruck combo. But I am keeping an eye on Dawson Simpson, and whether he or McIntosh will be the number 1 ruck at Geelong (what does everyone think in regards to that?).

I've gone for a very strong forward line as there's just too many under priced guns I can miss out on.

One idea I'm toying with is downgrading Franklin or Rioli to Karnezis or Fasolo, and then upgrading Claye Beams to a say, Trent Cotchin. That's the main thing that will be leaving me sleepless at night for months to come.

Anyway, thanks for checking out my first team. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and I'll do my best to have a look and critique your own team (if it's up on here). Cheers ;D

Can't really fault it too much assuming all players are fit round 1.

Not a fan of Rioli in the forward line, so would suggest to downgrade him to Fasolo/Karnezis as you said, then upgrade in whatever line you choose (HMac to Goldy, Hendo to Simpson, etc)

Apart from that, looks good. Although I prefer Ablett and Selwood over GAJ this year, so maybe pick one of them instead of him? Just my opinion though.

I think Rioli is a great option personally. Priced at an averaged of 88. If you take out games where he was sub or subbed, or sustained an injury, he averaged 102. Do the same for 2012, and he averaged 110. I started with him this year and thought I was on to something when he burst out the blocks with an average of 111 over five rounds before going down with injury. If he gets fit for a full season, watch out. But the downgrade option is still tempting nonetheless. I'm more likely to downgrade Franklin though if anything.

I have been thinking of leaving Ablett out.. but I know I just won't be able to do it when it comes to five minutes before locking. I'd be kicking myself all season if he starts the year with a few blinders. I just think Pendles and Selwood are less likely to start the year on fire, and more likely to fall to a lower price for future upgrades.

This is exactly why I don't like him. IF he can stay fit for the entire year, he'll probably be the best pick of the decade, haha.

I'm currently not starting Ablett, and honestly, I think my team looks much better without him, which is flowering weird :P
Allowed me to strengthen my forwards and backs, and I also get to have Fyfe in the mids who I think will kill it next year.

Haha IF, that's the big question. At this stage, I'm willing to take the risk.

Hahaha that certainly is weird. But I can see how that can be the case. I might have to have a play around at a life without Ablett to see how it can benefit my team. I just love having him in as my VC captain loophole every week incase he goes huge. Which can be a lot of points in itself.

Well there's another big IF.. IF Fyfe didn't kick the ball straight into the oppositions hands every second disposal, he could be the highest averaging player in the league. I'm trying to steer clear of players with high clanger numbers. If he can improve his disposal though.. wow, he could be anything.

My two biggest worries were Hamish McIntosh and Nic Nat not being DPP. I've got rid of those problems, by moving Nic Nat to the ruck, and as a result, I turned McIntosh into Paul Chapman, whose scoring potential is far better in my opinion. However, I am considering turning Chapman into Karnezis, and then Beau Waters into a premium defender, but I'm not sold on any of the premium defenders. Hanley and Kade Simpson are the two I'm looking at, but Brisbane's tough draw puts me off Hanley, as well as his inability to shake a tag. Much the same with Simpson in regards to the tag. So for now, this is the team.
