What a year. Chad The Boss Wingard stamped himself on the competition in 2013 in quite a fashion. In 2013 he won All Australian Honours, was awarded the 2013 John Cahill Medal for Port's Best and Fairest and won the Showdown medal in round 19 all at the age of 20! His second season! He's already a star and beckons super-stardom!

  • Ranked 9th in Total Inside 50s
  • Ranked 15th in Total Goals
  • Ranked 17th in Inside 50s Per Game

In 2013, Wingard averaged 21 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 87.5 DT and kicked 43.20. No other player in the AFL averaged 20+ disposals and kicked 40+ goals, and only one player averaged over 20 disposals and kicked 30+ goals, this was Dangerfield who averaged 23 disposals and kicked 31 goals, so he is pretty decent company!
Despite averaging 87 points, he reached the ton 8 times which is quite a good strike rate, but it also means that there is plenty of room for improvement (well he is only 20).
In saying that is scoring was somewhat consistent and only went goaless once, still scored 105 though  ;)

In 2014, expect Wingard to cop some more attention but play a very similar role, the inclusion of White may allow him some more stints in the midfield as I expect White to play high half forward/wing

2014 Prediction:
Yes he will get more attention...but it is Chad Wingard, don't doubt him. He easily has the potential to push 100+ in just his third season but I will be more realistic ~ 90 - 95

2014 Verdict:Looks good IMO, still quite a risk considering but he has ability. Is a big chance to be in but has some competition

I reckon he'll drop down to a low 80s average tbh :P

I'm allowed to be a little bias  ::)

Master Q

Yeah I'm not sure if he'll maintain his average.

If he does he could be a handy forward upgrade, if he is a forward of course. Reckon a few people will bite the bullet and start him though  :-X

tbagrocks

I'll bet he increases average, any takers?

Kid is a superstar, why would he decrease? :P

He's better than a superstar though ;)  Yes, please, everyone get nervous by him ;D

Kellogscrunchynut

One of the biggest locks in the competition, should be in every team.

Can't agree with you less

Adamant

Definitely won't be starting him, too unproven. How many times do we see guys like him disappoint and drop off after one good season? Wouldn't be surprised to see him average 70-80.

Very good write up ADEZ, but not for me.

you also guarenteed that dangerfield would increase in average, and that tex would win the coleman

Ricochet

My only concern with this guy is he scored well against average teams. Of his highlights you listed only two were against a top 8 side. He also proved to be a match winner, meaning opposition will start to give him more attention and respect. He will no doubt be a gun, but with a tougher draw in 2014 and more attention from oppo I can't see him beating his average from 2013.

Oh shut up! Tex knee, Danger played forward because of it, get stuffed

Colliwobblers

another great write up but i wont go near him, tough year ahead and 90-95 is not good enough to keep or make cash off.

looks like he will be a gun but so will Gaff, and that's how tough chads next season could be too.

differnt player i know but still not for me in 2014

MGK1

Not going to start with him, very easy draw last year but should maintain 80+
