Hey everyone.

I just signed up to participate in The Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer, which is fundraising money for The Chris O'Brien Lifehouse at RPA Hospital. Lifehouse will integrate clinical care, research, education and integrative therapies, creating opportunities for innovative discoveries, compassionate holistic care and better outcomes for patients, their families and carers.

Basically this event entails me riding over 200+km over 2 days in October to raise money for this great foundation. Most of you wouldn't know this (by most I mean everyone), but I used to do a fair bit of cycling. However over recent years I haven't touched a bike and have ended up putting on a large amount of weight, so this is going to be a very tough thing for me to complete. But I will be training hard to ensure I can complete it and help cancer research.

The one stipulation to enter the ride is I must be able to raise a minimum of $2,500 in donations before the ride kicks off. However I have set myself a target of $3,500, and so this is where all you guys come in. I know many of you are just school students, or uni students like me, but if you could spare just $10-20 that would be great, even more would be amazing! I understand if you can't afford to donate, but if you do choose to I would be forever grateful.

To donate all you have to do is go to my own fundraising page and click to donate online. To do that you can click on this link, which should take you there - http://sy13.conquercancer.org.au/site/TR/Events/Sydney2013?px=1298785&pg=personal&fr_id=1113

If for some reason that link isn't working go to www.conquercancer.com.au and click on the donate link. Then search for my name and participant ID, which is 871744-7. At the moment I am the only James Wilkinson, so the ID number won't be required, but it may be later.

So please guys if you could just donate even a little bit that would be great. The only way we are going to be able to beat cancer is by getting the funds in place to do the research and all the hard work.

If you have any questions just ask me. To see just what Lifehouse is and what they do check out the website - http://www.lifehouserpa.org.au/The_Chris_O_Brien_Lifehouse_at_RPA.aspx

Thanks in advance to any of you who decide to donate to this great cause :)

Hey guys just an update about my ride. With the ride in just under 3 weeks (October 12 and 13) I have currently raised $1700. I still need to raise another $800 before the ride starts so I'm desperately asking for some more donations. There have already been some wonderful people on this website who have donated to my cause and for that I am truly thankful.

If I don't raise the money I will have to put it in myself so I am adding an incentive for why you should all donate (as if helping cancer research and treatment wasn't already a reason). The incentive is this...

As you would all know pro cyclists all shave their legs (mainly due to crashes and not aerodynamics as most would think), but I don't do that. In fact I have got very hair legs (see image below). Anyway this is what I am proposing... If you can all donate a fair chunk of that $800 that I don't have to put in the majority myself I will WAX, yes I said WAX my legs for the ride. Waxing clearly much more painful than just shaving them, but I'm willing to do it for a great cause. So if you don't want to donate money for cancer, at least donate to see me go through some pain. I will post progressive pictures ;)

This is what my legs currently look like, so you can imagine how painful this will be...

Wow thanks so much doc!! You've paid for one calf to be waxed by yourself! :o

So very very generous, I am lost for words! Guess I should be supporting Hawks in the final now!
