Fremantle defender Alex Silvagni has signed a one-year contract extension,
committing to the clubuntil the end of season 2014.

Young talls Tanner Smith and Matt Taberner have also agreed to contract extensions.

Smith, who was selected with pick 36 in the 2012 National Draft,
signed a one-year extension to the end of the 2015 season.

Taberner, 20, hails from country Victoria and came to the club via the 2012 rookie draft
signed a two-year extension until the end of season 2015 and will be added to the senior list.

hoping Silvagni gets more games next season

The games SOS has played for freo this year, in replacement of McPharlin, have been excellent. Does a great defensive job, and is just so hard. I'd say he's up there with mayne and mzungu as one of the best tacklers in the team. With Macca on his way out, this is a serious get for freo. I was worried Silvagni would be walking away at the end of the season, looking for more opportunities, but obviously he's been promised them at freo - great news, I really rate him.

Taberner and Smith showed some good signs as well. Freo must rate them, so I'm looking forward to seeing them get some more game time next year.

Any word on Viv Michie's contract status? And what's happening with Josh Mellington? Had a great start to his AFL career and then got injured, but he's meant to have been going fairly well in the WAFL...

I think the future looks bright for us wharfies, even with Pav, Sandi and McPharlin entering their twilight years...
