emergency loophole

Hey guys, ive never really understood the whole emergency loophole theory & was hoping someone could shed some light on it for me

from my understanding, you need to:

select the E on a player in an early game EG: staker (BL vs RICH) & have him off the field
then if he scores good, sub on a donut player (thurlow) to take his score OR if he scores poorly, go with another players score (pittard)

is this right??

You're right in a sense except that in this instance you couldn't use Thurlow or Pittard as your options as the Geelong v Port game starts 25 minutes after the Brisbane game so you wouldn't know Staker's score before Thurlow and Pittard are locked out.
