Interesting topic this one wato, has got me thinking about my possible way forward now.

Had just about locked in Goodes -> Shaw, leaving me 42k, 2 trades (for injuries) and guys like JJK and Priddis at F6 and M8 respectively.

The more I think about it though, with the Eagles tough run home would I be better off going a slightly cheaper premium defender option this week to have a little more in the kitty to go either Priddis -> Griffen or JJK -> Bartel or someone along those lines?

Options in defence I'm strongly considering are:

Shaw (42k left)
Ibbo or Heppell (~100k left)
Grimes (180k left)

Scotty Thompson about the same price as Shaw, so would prefer Heater. Is 180k in the bank with 2 trades left a little bit of overkill? Just assumed I'd need those two trades for injuries but would be nice having a bit of cash up the sleeve to play with luxury upgrades.

Good thinking RB. I like the idea of leaving yourself $$$ because you can then get better choices in if someone goes down to an LTI or to bad form. I like the idea of Goodes to Ibbo/Heppell or Grimes, as I don't think Heater will score much more than them to be honest given his run of opponents.

Ibbo for his draw, Heppell for his consistency, or Grimes for the unique. Would go with Ibbo IMO then upgrade Priddis in due time, but leave JJK at F6 as he's doing an awesome job there (Priddis isn't a true premium compared with other Mids whereas JJK is a perfect F6).

Not overkill at all. Like I said anything could happen and extra cash to be able to afford the best choices is always a good way to go and have.

You're exactly right with your point on luxury trades. Lets just hope your guns don't get any LTI and you'll be right.

Good luck RB.

Well I went Ibbo in the end, kind of regretting that already at the moment with all other options (Heppell, Shaw, Henderson) tonning up or close enough to it for Heppell.

But, what's done is done and now I have the cash to go Priddis -> Griffen. A little oversight from me, I've realised that I can do the trade this week with 6k remaining in the bank and 1 trade, and Priddis and Griffen both have large breakevens for this week, FootyWire predicting Priddis to go down more than Griffo. If he goes down by more than 6k more than Griffen I'll be unable to afford the trade and will most likely be stuck with Priddis unless he pulls out a score significantly bigger than Griffen in the coming weeks.

All leans towards pulling the trigger today, but 1 trade left for the remaining 5 weeks is a massive issue. Planned to wait at least a week or two and see how I'm going injury wise and if I finish top 4 and win the first final I could hold off until prelim week, but looking more and more unlikely I'll be able to do the Priddis trade then.

Thinking of now getting rid of Swallow (BE of 114) and keeping Mitchell (BE of 64). Thought about it long and hard and saw the BE of both him and T Mitch and the BE's of both Griffen and Beams. If I kept Swallow at $461k he could easily not improve in cash in the immediate future, and with only $205k I'd be splashing $130k on him to Griff and then hoping Beams to get within $75k of Priddis (BE of 145) so Priddis will go sub $500k.

Getting rid of Swallow gives me $253k and with Mitchell's low BE I'm hoping he can smash out a 110 against Sydney and get himself to $460k within two weeks. Rise of $25k each week. $100k upgrade to Griff.
Priddis to Beams with the $150k left. $480k to $630k or less I'm hoping.

I hope you traded Swallow, cooked for 12 months apparently!

Where'd you hear 12? Surely not  :'(

I thought Rd1 was still the optimistic early goal, more likely about 9 months then will need some pre-season Utah stuff most likely.

I watched the press conference and Scott thought it was a 12 month injury, it's a shame! Swallow hasn't missed a game since 2009 and I only managed to get 7 games out of him!

Vinny

Did you make the trade RB ?

Priddis 68 at HT
Griffen 40 at HT

Hope you didn't. Priddis on fire.

_wato

I did trade Swallow luckily enough.. Didn't know if it stupid or smart at the time but now it seems like it was the right choice.

Sorry about the Ibbo call RB. Looks as if he isn't playing the same role or playing it as effective as he was. Still has some easy games to go though, so no point worrying yet.

And yes Swallow out for 12 unfortunately, 9 months in rehab.

roo boys!

Nah you're fine, still not panicking re Ibbo yet, just a little frustrated when just about every other premo defender that I considered at one point or another tonned up haha

Absolutely devastating news with Swallow, although as the North players have said if anyone is gonna come back from this bigger and better it'll be this bloke!

Pre-scaling Priddis 100, Griffen 103, didn't do the trade fortunately. Luckily I was out at the local footy so didn't do the trade, had I been home I may have well done it.

Also will be handy to have that extra trade if Nicholls' injury doesn't come up very well.

It happens mate, haha quite annoying.

It is. Love him as a player, good to watch, but his form of late had been a worry.. Seemed to be getting injured/hurtat least once a game in the past few games, and was probably due for a rest.

Sure will mate. Once again Priddis robbed after scaling.. Bullshower.

Don't think Nicholls is too concerning however.. He'll miss this week but should be back next week.
