So the post Round 13 poll.  My defensive line currently:

Goddard, Gibbs, Shaw, Birchall, Goodes, Vlaustin (Brown, Thurlow) Cash left $76,500

Am looking to offload Vlaustin as I now believe you cannot have both he and Goodes as keepers unless you can bench one (I can't) and Goodes is more consistent making him a better D6.  The options:

Pearce Hanley (Bris)
Price: $435,100
Average: 97.8
Breakeven: 131
Score Range: 42-160

Why to get him?
- With the exception of his two sub 50 scores he's been one of the most consistent defenders
- Prior to this week was averaging in excess of 100ppg
- Is by far the cheapest if my options, which will leave me in excess of $40k to put towards my final mid upgrade in a few weeks

Why not to get him?
- His coach is Voss who in the last few weeks has been playing him out of position
- His last 3round average is 60.7
- His B/E is high meaning he is likely to drop over the next couple of weeks meaning he could be a straight swap for Goodes as a luxury trade or Birchall if his injury is more serious than first thought.  By the we will have more info on whether the form drop is temporary.

Dyson Heppell (Ess)
Price: $480,200
Average: 97.18
Breakeven: 93
Score Range: 73 - 149

Why to get him?
- Plays for a much stronger team in contention for finals, meaning less chance of being played out of position
- Playing in the midfield and is reasonably consistent
- Is averaging 101.7 in his last three games, and has a B/E of 93

Why not to get him?
- His disposal efficiency can let him down and effect his scores
- His team is in finals contention, meaning he could be rested in the run to the finals
- He is the most expensive and take most of my spare cash

Michael Hibberd (Ess)
Price: $480,100
Average: 98.42
Breakeven: 129
Score Range: 71-124

Why to get him?
- Has the highest average of the three contenders
- Has been very consistent for a defender
- Is settled in his position, so his scores are unlikely to be effected by experimentation

Why not to get him?
- Like Heppell will use most of my saved cash to get him
- Has not had any big 140+ type scores
- Has so far played every game in a team who should play a big part in September.  Would the Bombers rest him if they believe they are a genuine chance at the flag?

Which one should I get?

difficult one ... heppell gets destroyed sc scoring wise ... hibberd has been a great pick up for my team but the extra attention to him off the half back line is coming ... hanley if he played in his normal spot i would say yes have him ...

pretty sure brisbane have a easy run on the road home so i would still prob go hanley

Hibberd's history of soft tissue injuries is a big concern for me. Hasn't happened this year but he did have problems with them in his first two years. Good player though.

I'd lean toward Heppell given that he's pretty reliable and hasn't had many injury problems. But Hanley is looking awfully tempting if he ends up being almost a straight swap for Goodes.

Brisbane's run home is like this after Hawthorn;
GC, NM, Melbourne, PA, St Kilda, Richmond, GWS, WB and Geelong.
Even if he does get fielded out of position for some games he is still likely to score alright.

Hanley for me. Goes like this id say.
Hanley>Hibberd>Heppell

Let me throw in another H for consideration - Shannon Hurn. Was averaging 94 going into the Hawthorn match and now has a huge BE due to his leaving very early with an ankle injury. Obviously it depends on whether he misses any additional time and whether the injury continues to hamper him, but SC gold projects his price to fall to around $365k after two more rounds. That is a huge bargain for a guy who averaged 91 last year and was in good form before getting hurt.

Is he injured?
Will be good to get after a week or two with an 8 in his rolling average

Wasn't he on crunchers at the end of the match unable to put any weight on that ankle?

Can't really split Hanley or Heppell.

Probably Hanley just as it gives you an extra $50k to add to your mid upgrades - Good luck.

Well, I think it was more just to keep the weight off the ankle because they wanted him to get scans first. Eagles face Essendon on Thursday night so it's really unlikely he would be back for that match. But if he's back in a couple of weeks then he's someone to keep in mind, since his price (whenever he does get that 8 out of his rolling average) will put him at a straight swap with just about anybody you'd have in your defense - Terlich, Goodes, Vlastuin, etc.

Hibberd>Heppel>Hanley

I've watched Hibberd a lot this season and he looks solid as a rock. Hanley is tempting at his current price but personally I would prefer not to see out the season wondering where Hanley will play each week. Lock in Hibberb/Heppel to score 100+ each week.

Whyyyy would anyone even consider Hanley after what Voss has done to his SC scoring potential over the last few weeks? I'd go Heppell over those 3, hibbo will attract serious attention from now on unfortunately
