Would a shoutbox be of benefit to the forums?

Hey guys,

I've been noticing recently how clogged up P&T is getting with threads that are asking minor questions.

I understand policing the shoutbox would require a bit of moderation but it could potentially really help reduce the amount of crappy posting which can come to be in threads which converge into off-topic conversations.

Clearly the same rules would apply as on the forums.  Members can also be banned/suspended retrospectively via chat logs.

Anyway, here's SMF's shoutbox mod which is compatible with the current forum version:
