Never afraid to say what he thinks! What a ridiculous rule and good on him for trying to save our game.

If he gets fined for this, we should all chip in and pay it ;) :P ;D

Ziplock

so what?

when our grandparents were kids they were taught that black people were inferior to white people... doesn't make racism right. Times change, both in society, and in football.

What's walker talking about specifically though? I think I missed about 3/4 of a quarter (all together), while I was on and off cooking a late dinner.

tbagrocks

I also heard he plays alright ;)

He doesn't mind a twitter rant, called Bernard Tomic a flog ;D

Justin Bieber

Zip I think he refers to Davey.

CrowsFan

Yeah probably that one in the goal square where Reilly dived at the ball to try and clear it and Davey just planted his legs behind the ball to get the free without even trying to get it. Really seems like they are trying to stop people from wanting to get the ball when you add this to the other rule about diving on the ball to try and clear it, but if you don't it's a free. Seems like the rules are rewarding the second player to the ball not the first like they should!

AFEV

The free to Davey was stupid and it was a really unfortunate for the Crows that it happened at a key point in the game...Not the biggest fan of Tex but I have to agree with him here this rule makes no sense.

Fair enough we are trying to protect the players but surely the guy with his head at foot/knee level going full pelt at the ball is at far more danger than the guy just standing there!?!

Kinda feels like the kicking in danger & sliding rules contradict each other too...

unfortunatly some coaches/ coaching groups go that one step to far, remember tunneling. Not naming names (I don't even wan't to go there), but sliding in could/was starting, to become a tactic. I understand that it's instinct to get the ball, but why not hurt someone while ur at it, again remember the start of tunneling. You have to be honest, when it was first highlighted, it became a blight on the game, to the extent it was getting dangerous for the guy going for the big mark ,

Colliwobblers

i support the sliding rule, but what i have seen so far is a little over the top, they need to police it right, standing over the ball while someone goes into get it without sliding as far as i can tell is not THE SLIDING IN RULE.

incidental contact below the knees was not the rule or the spirit of the rule.

dangerous sliding in is the rule and the spirit of the rule to stop people taking the easy way out and just sliding in with no regard for the player tey slide into "who is also going for the ball but keeping his feet"

great rule but can be gotten really really wrong which is what tex may be alluding to....

Dudge, what exactly do Dave Granger, Bomber Clifford, Daryl Poole, Byron Pickett, Tim Ginever, Greg Phillips, Jay Schulz, Michael Wilson, Josh Francou, Darren Mead, Josh Carr and many more courageous, head first at the ball players at Port Adelaide (everyone of these guys get a Capital 'C' for Courage) think of this new rule?
This new rule reflects more on the demographic that Demetriou is trying to attract in West Sydney and GC. The AFL's investment into these expansion areas need to attract an audience that is traditionally aligned to rugby. In keeping with the mantra of ' the best ideas are stolen' why not then make our game more like theirs and tack into what the new market might accept to watch, makes $ense, but flowers it for the purist  >:(

I understand that the rules can be misinterpreted, as it sounds like it was for that davey thing, but surely a rule against sliding itself isn't that bad... like, it causes horrific injuries. Contact below the knees I think needs to be assessed as intentional, which kind of makes sense, like I know last year I saw a couple of free paid when players intentionally went low to cop a soft shin/knee to the head/shoulder to win a free.

You're right Roost with the pool of players you named, but if they we're playing today, we'd want to have a deep list for the amount of games they would miss with all these new rules. I think it's a bit like Zip said about it needs more  clarification on whats intentional, and whats just going flat out to win the contested ball. I must agree though, it's very murky as it stands

fidou

Did anyone see Mzungu's collision with LeCaras he just turned around before the knock and hit him hard. He did agian with Selwood later in the game. Not sure it is a tactic or just one of those things.

Hagebear

It's absolute bullshower!! It's the softest rule in the AFL. There wouldn't be one player in the AFL who agrees with it. It used to be the toughest game in the world and that's why everyone loved it. Rugby League would be laughing at us right now! Toughen up Demetriou u flog!!
