PORT ADELAIDE:

John Butcher (hand) doubtful
Nick Salter (foot) 6-8 weeks

A HEALTHY list after a fruitful summer. The major bonus is the speedy return of Robbie Gray. The freakish goalkicker is AFL ready after two SANFL hitouts and could line up against the Dees. Watch for midfield beast and top draft pick Ollie Wines to debut, while former Eagle Lewis Stevenson and Jake Neade could also feature.

I really think it would be a bad move to play Gray this week. Let him have another run in the magoos and get him ready for round 2. No point rushing him back i would really like to see Newton have a crack round 1 and let Gray play round 2.

Ricochet

Agree Noz, especially when he's coming back from that kind of injury

Noz

And he has spent most of his time in the midfield whilst playing in the SANFL good signs for when he does come back.

What's still wrong with Butcher?

Suffered a small fracture at the top of his wrist against Sydney a couple weeks ago.

Small chance to line up against the Dees though.

I agree Noz, i would rather they did'nt rush Robbie  back and also woukd like to see Newton get a go. Btw mate, did Robbie play in the twos on the weekend (sorry mate had a big weekend) or the seniors

tbagrocks

Actually yes the Magpies reserves, I guess because West didn't have a game

Dudge

Cheers T-bags, thats what i heard but was'nt sure

Am I right in saying Newton didn't have much pre-season game time? Also Hombsch, is he not in the mix? Guess O'Shea or Jonas will play the third tall

Bit supprised that Newton hasn't been mentioned much

Redden may play forward with no Butcher then?

Noz

Gray played quite well on the weekend haven't checked the stats but heard he did well.

Jonas was always going to play third tall was upgraded off the rookie list purely to play as the third tall.

Melbourne have quite a tall Backline so we may choose to play a medium size forward line with Butcher out. This could be a hint that Neade and maybe Hitchcock might both get a gig come round 1 with Schulz, Monfries, Westhoff and Ebert rounding out out forward line.

I maintain that I don't think neade has the body for afl yet. If he can put on like 5kg, maybe.

Will benefit of course by adding on a couple of kilos but it didn't look like it bothered him at all in the U/18s, Averaged 72 points in the carnival last season and looms as a great prospect at 18 years of age. Can still lay a good tackle and his ability to weave in and out of danger is something great to see.

I feel like we will play both Hitchcock and Neade early on until one of the two stands out from the other i don't think we can afford to play 2 small forwards as we will continue to rely on our medium sized players to get the job done. Having both may just crowd up the forward line a bit.

Neade will more than likely start as our sub on the weekend

Ziplock

under 18s most kids dont have developed enough bodies, so it kind of evens out.

Neade start sub and Wines subbed off :-[

The week after Gray start sub maybe Neade gets full game
