Wondering what people think on the following,

- I currently have Embley sitting at M5, also have $200k left for some serious trading come rd 3 or 4 (or make a rook DEF become Tambling etc)
- Or do I put ROK in at M5 (has a dream start), and then if Embley guns it early downgrade a Mid Premo with the highest BE

Note: If I go with ROK I have next to no cash left over and have to play around with my rookies (Downgrade Lonergan --> Jones/Hrovat etc)

Windigo

I'm a skeptic when it comes to choosing players purely because of their start.  :-\

Adamant

I agree with Windi, it's too much of a gamble picking players based on their easy draw unless you're tossing up between two premos.

I'd take Embers and upgrade elsewhere with the cash?

Sweetness

Appreciate the thoughts.
Yeah I'm tossing up with who/where to upgrade. Will be paying particular attention to the Nab in the coming weeks.

ROK is still a good pick though. He averaged 105 without his sub affected 16 in round 1. But yeah, I just feel it's too risky to pick him based on his easy draw early.

ROK ROK ROK!!!!

I'm oh so tempted to start him - the bloke is a jet & will absolutely slaughter the teams he's opening the season against 8) 8)

Got him 8)

Plan is to trade him to SJ whenever their prices/BEs seem most appropriate.

ROK is a gun think Embley may start to stuggle for game time with young players coming through ? but only my opinion !

Capper

Get ROK in your team. Dream start and will be a gun. Will also sit behind the ball later in the game getting cheap processions

I must admit I'm not too excited by Embley's prospects this year.  He'll do "just allright", but I think he'll struggle for big scores, 80ish average tops, which I guess is all right for an M5.  I've decided on Moloney as having brighter prospects.  I don't think you can talk about Emblely and ROK in the same breath this year, ROK will explode out of the blocks.

Sweetness

Hmm got me thinking.
I'm starting to sway the way of ROK and here's why.

If he guns it early that's a nice POD.
If he fails miserably in the first 2 games it is an easy downgrade to a flying midpricer/rookie on the bubble

It's almost a win/win

Whereas if I start Embley and use my leftover cash upgrading, if Embley spuds it, he'll more difficult to replace and I'm behind the 8-ball from the get go..

ROK missed round 1 last year, and he averaged just over 100 without that 16
discounting his first 3 games (due to a lack of preseason) and he actually averaged 105 (or between Stants and Tommo for those interested)

Master Q

I have to agree with others regarding the draw trading tactic - my rule is only have 1 in your team to start with.

If it means you'll have ROK with another guy (eg: Roo) as guys who you will offload early then I'd say no, but if he is your only one consider it as Embers is probably the best value pick this season!
