Vardy shaping as a possible mid-priced option early? Lucky Geelong play last in round 1, should get West up. But it'd be tough being solo ruck for a game then backing up off a 6 day break for Round 2...

It's been like this at Geelong as long as I've been alive. We have maybe 6 possible ruck options ATM and they're all bloody injured
Nearly. I think Sam Newman was the last one to stay on the park a while.

Windigo

I'd highly doubt H-Mac will play in the first month....

Ever since Ottens retired they've been screwed over in the rucks.  :P

Ricochet

Outside Vardy, who else do they have available?
Could we see Jpod or Hawkins having stints running through the middle?

have to consider vardy now,the cheap rucks of last 2 seasons is looking a possibility again, all we need is goldy to go down & it becomes a certainty-leuey vardy currie rowe daw its shaping up but im still having cox/ryder,1 in forwards at this point

Ryan Bathie would be a slight possibility despite not rucking at all in the VFL last year. 198cm/102kg. He's actually a semi decent fantasy scorer too.

Very interesting thanks MC.

I know its not the point of the thread, but this has elevated Hawkins right up in consideration for one of my forward positions.

Nah fair point, if both H-Mac and West miss the first 2-4 games it changes the DT relevancy of a lot of Geelong players. If Hawkins can take 8 marks, kick 3 goals then get 20-odd hitouts with possessions around the ground, he'll be scoring damn well...

It's kind of bizarre that he is listed as ruck only in DT because he only had 5 hitouts for the whole season and everything I've read indicates he was playing as a back with a few stints in the forward line. ???

I think VS/CD dropped the ball on that one.

maybe he's just a really bad ruck? :P

You'd have to be really, really bad to go and line up on the full back at centre bounces. ;D

Joel Hamling?? was listed as a ruck last year but didn't play a senior game. This year listed as a defender. I think started as a ruck forward in the VFL and finish as a key defender but would he be an option for Geelong?

I doubt it. Too short/light to make a fist of it.

Also, his stats last year were truly horrible. Averaged 7.4 disposals, 2.1 marks and 0.8 tackles.
