I don't know if it is worth making my own draft list, seeing as though my draft type is live, and not auto.

I figure that if a player i like is still available, i pick him, whereas if the draft was auto, you need to make your draft list to get the players you want.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

The list is only for if you're not able to participate in the live draft, you will draft the highest player available on your list when the clock expires on your turn.
