DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, M. Suckling, G. Broughton, N. Bock, B. Staker. (B. Goodes, D. Terlich)

MID: G. Ablett, J. Kennedy, J. Watson, T. Cotchin, T. Varcoe, K. Stevens, K. Mitchell, J. O'Meara. (B. Crouch, J. Viney)

RUC: T. Bellchambers, M. Leuenberger. (D. Currie, B. Grundy)

FWD: L. Franklin, T. Rockliff, M. Wright, T. Cloke, J. Kennedy, S. Brynes. (B. Macaffer, T. Lee)

Considering swapping Ablett & Cotchin for Pendlebury & Redden then upgrading Bellchambers for Cox.

get rid of Bellchambers for a premium, say Goldstein. Theres talk that bock wont be ready for round 1, so keep that in mind. Downgrade Watson to Redden to free up some cash.

Solid first up team -

Def: 2 mid price defenders in Suckling and Broughton may be a risky. With Bock in doubt suggest downgrade to a rookie and upgrade Suckling to Birchill or similar, Also maybe move Staker forward to use D/F DPP with Broughton. Bock also in doubt for Round 1. From all reports there will be a number of defence rookies this year.
Mids: Solid but again do not consider Varcoe as a mid move forward
Ruck Solid
Fwd Very strong at the expense of def and rucks.

Couple of Suggestions
Replace Currie or Grundy with Rowe or McBean to give R/F DPP
Look at moving Staker and Varcoe to forwards replacing possibly Byrnes and Cloke/Kennedy
maybe downgrade Franklin to Cox not a huge difference in average scores.
Play around with rookies for replacements to free up cash to upgrade Bellchambers and Suckling. Look at Ball or Embley as Varcoe replacement in mids.

Would not consider downgrading Ablett or Cotchin unless you still need further cash.

Bit much to take in I know.

Sound base to work from with a rating 7/10

Cheers!

Will replace Currie/Grundy for Rowe.

The idea behind Suckling is that with Young moving on to the Pies I think he may be utilised on the wing and through the middle a little to make room for Lake down back.

News is that Ball may not start Round 1 and i'm trying to stay away from Embley (and LeCras) with the introduction of Wellingham - i'm unsure how much midfield time & game time (as Embley was a sub a lot of last year) each of them will have.

What are your thoughts on Bellchambers being this years "Ivan Maric'? That's my rationale behind picking him and the hope to upgrade Leuenberger to the best performing Ruck after the bye.

Will look to replace Bock with the mature age flying dutchmen at Essendon.

Thoughts?

Thanks for your reasons Paddy.

Another criteria I tell coaches is go with gut feel.  Look at options given but in the end go with gut as it is seldom wrong.

Had not heard of Balls not starting round 1 so thanks for info.

With Bellchambers it would depend on how Hird will use him if both Hille and Ryder are fit. Last year he was basically used when Hille or Ryder were out injured. Really racked up the stats Rds 16 - 20 when Ryder was out with 4 100+ SC scores.
One would hope that he is given a fair go as his stats really improved last year doubling hit outs.  If he can maintain his improvement then you may be right.

Trust that helps.

Paddy, where did you here about Ball not being right for round one?

I'm a Pieman & I haven't heard anything like that.
