love the midfield mate, gone with the guns there i see, i would just chuck a bit of money into the backs and forwards. Only player im not sure on is polkinghorne really, i think that's a top knotch effort. BTW would u be interested in joining my competitive league for Dream Team? Cause u look as though u know what ur doing in SC (+ i saw the 1880 in your profile :P)

supercoachheroes

very good when you have that much left over. not too sure about having greenwood and sheppard would upgrape greenwood probably, also polkinghorne didnt have a very good year.. everyone seems to be doing it but personally i wouldnt start dennis lane on the field either

It's pretty easy to put a solid team together that looks really good when youre starting four rookies, so as long as you're aware of the risk.

Watto

@tferrier - I agree with the rookies part, but I really don't like the idea of spending anywhere between $250,000 - $400,000 on midpricers, unless they're pretty much assured to do well. At least with rookies they only have to score anything to go up in $$$ - an average of 40 gets you to ~$210,000, an average of 60 gets you to ~$320,000; both pretty terrible, so they don't have to do a whole lot to do their role.

@supercoachheroes - Apparently Greenwood will be part of the 2nd midfield rotation, so plenty of points there hopefully. Sheppard looked ok against Essendon, and at only $149,200 he doesn't have to do much...Polkinghorne is also playing midfield this year apparently, and he's only priced to average 53, so plenty of upside for him.
I'm not sure about the 7th forward. Generally, you can get away with having one rookie (ie cheap player) in each position, and he did very well in the intra-club game, kicking 5.

I'm currently thinking about swapping Kreuzer for Seaby, and Dangerfield for Harvey. This loses me about $30,000 - so down to a still reasonable $159,300 remaining.
Thoughts on these trades?

supercoachheroes

please explain what the point of having a rookie on the field that goes up in cash but gets you crap points is? how does this benefit you at all, once they get up to 300,000 you have made 200, so you can either swap the rookie for another crap 300,000 player or upgrade an average player then buy another rookie that also gets crap points? the idea of rookies for cash is to have them on the bench so it doesnt matter if there only getting 40-50

Watto

@ Supercoachheroes - Basically my thinking is that a premium and a rookie will score more on average than 2 midpricers.

At the moment, we have very little knowledge of how any rookie will score, so we assume that they will do fairly poorly, generally around 40-60 ppg. They could, however, be very good (Taylor Walker last year score a 124 & 92) for some games, and this can be enough to get them up to around $350,000-$400,000 - from where a trade back down can net over $250,000; or a direct upgrade to a fallen (or falling) premium, provided between $50,000 - $100,000 remaining.

Having rookies to cover is one valuable purpose, but they can also be used to make money. Supercoach's winning team from last year had only 8 'rookies' at the end of the season, and of them Broughton and Anthony were averaging over 90 ppg. The rest of the team were all premiums.

That said, if you can pick midpricers who will elevate themselves into premium status, or get high enough in price for a direct trade into one, that's a good tactic also.

supercoachheroes

an average of 40-60 will make them worth 210,00 to 310,000 not 350-400, and 100,000 can mean a lot when upgrading a plaer, to be worth 350-400 thousand they would need more like 70-75 which not many 'rookies' get

Watto

Yeah, but if they do something like what T. Walker did last year (score over 100), then after the 3 weeks they can get up to around that price, provided the other games aren't terrible

supercoachheroes

there were probably 5 rookies that did that last year, spread out over the whole draft, so 5 or maybe 6 or 7 out of 70 players in the draft its a huge risk, sure you need  to take risks but its why i think you should have them on your bench instead of the field incase it doesnt pay off, you have to look at the likes of callum wilson who got games but still did bad and wouldnt have been worth havingon your field

why do people post their teams on other people's threads?

watto: If you include mid priced players in your team and have scoring rookies on the bench...once your benched rookies go up in price you can trade one or two of them out for min priced rookies (who are playing), and then upgrade your mid priced players to a premium with just two trades.

If you try to use this technique by upgrading a rookie, its going to take longer and more trades because they might not reach a scoring avg of a mid priced player, therefore only ever reaching a price of 250k...
