QuoteSo take the duffle coat off.  Do what Eddie did. Come up and visit us some time. I’ll shout you a ferry trip out on the Parramatta River and share a falafel with you.  You can even wash it down with a chardonnay. That way you won’t get indigestion.

Yeh the one after that is when they start demanding $$$$. I liked the comments about the Sydney cost of living allowance being outated.. It's so true.

' the recent economic report which ranked Sydney the third most expensive city in the world after Tokyo and Osaka.'

I've actually put up stats on this forum (although I have a sneaking suspicion that they were on the tippett thread which lez deleted cause he's a dick) comparing the cost of living in sydney to the cost of living in melbourne (the second most expensive australian city). Sydney + gws are allowed an extra 10% on their salary cap, which translates to an average of around 24 000 dollars per player. The cost of living difference between sydney and melbourne is actually a couple of thousand higher than that, even more so for high income earners (to be fair, a large chunk of that is due to the difference in property prices).

The 10% extra isn't to give players an incentive to stay at the club or entice players over, lets face it, sydney didnt lure tippett over by the promise of an extra 20k (considering he was already getting that in under the table payments at the crows :P), but rather to eliminate a reason why players might consider leaving a club in a non-afl dominated state, where the cost of living is significantly higher.

that being said, I'm assuming that the extra million is spread equally over the players salaries. If not, then I have an issue with it as well.

I thought Perth was second. Im not saying it wouldnt cost the most in Aus. Theres not doubting that. What im saying is a key marque player can be lured due to that extra 900k in the salary cap. And blokes who of are the same ability say the average player are going to be on say 250k in sydney and would be the same as the Melbourne one. They're not going to ask for that extr 24k on the side you know.

Just saying it helps a lot. Tippet case was good example. Especially that fact that 300k is very comfortable to live off, many players don't care too much about the tiny extra costs of living over there.

has melbourne as 5th and sydney as 3rd... and perth isn't 4th :P

yeah, I completely agree with that. That's why I said I'm assuming that the money is distributed evenly... otherwise it obviously wouldn't be fair, and I'd completely see the logic for an overhaul of the system.

Oh yeah, I know that, but it kind of gives a justification... like
'yeah, I didnt want to leave sydney, but you know, the cost of living and shower...'

Haha maybe 11th ? Maybe it was just the house prices for a while..

Yeh maybe they get the normal salary cap. Then the afl gives each player 24k each on sydneys list. That... Or they distribute it to them in a certain % of what they are already on. That way they cant just like bank up so much room in the cap and lure someone along.

Some thought by the afl definitely needs to go into it i reckon  :)

Giants sign magnificent seven
QuoteGREATER Western Sydney continues to lock down its stable of young stars and keep would-be suitors at bay, with Jonathon Patton and Dom Tyson headlining seven contract extensions announced on Wednesday.

The majority of the Giants' highly-prized talent is now under long-term contract, with Andrew Phillips, Curtly Hampton, Sam Frost
Will Hoskin-Elliott and Aidan Corr also putting pen to paper to remain with the AFL club.

They join the likes of Toby Greene, Jeremy Cameron, Steve Coniglio, Dylan Shiel, Tom Bugg and Adam Tomlinson, who committed their futures to the Giants last year.
