Tom Hawkins

Type:
Tom Hawkins arrived on the biggest stage of all in the 2011 Grand Final, being the most important player on the field after Podsiadly went down with an injury. Following this herculean effort he was tipped by many to have a big break out season. That is what big Tom did. However he did have a lot of problems in his way...for one thing he had the yips up until a man of the match performance and a goal after the siren from 55 metres out to sink the hawks, following that match he only kicked more behinds then goals once which was in the elimination final against Freo which he was well held in. On song he was almost unstoppable and came close to taking out a first coleman medal. With Vardy coming in he may play up the field more in a Nick Riewoldt type role as he has got a big tank, this could do well for his SuperCoach scoring.

FanPlanner Price: 505,100
Position: F
Stats:
Games: 22 (21 H & A)
Contested marks: 54 (Ranked second in the AFL)
Goals: 62
Goal Accuracy: 57% (4th out of the 7 leading goal kickers)
Highscores: 159 v HAW RD2, 147 v HAW RD19
Age: 24
2012 SuperCoach Average: 95.1

Thoughts:
Tom Hawkins is a risky but unique pick, he is a key foward which means he will have bad games. The good news is he doesn't always have to kick goals to get a decent score as shown against Melbourne (1 goal, 86 points) and Port Adelaide (2 goals, 99 points). A fully fit Vardy may see Hawkins be able to push up the ground more, get more touches of the ball and be more consistent.

Verdict: I see a more consistent year for Tomahawk, but he'll still have 4-5 50-60 games and is a key foward which I will try and avoid, the only key fowards (aside from Buddy ofcourse) that i'm considering at the moment are Walker and Pavlich. This may play into your favour though if you want to pick Hawkins who will be more unique then this year. He's not for me unless he's playing consistently. One to watch in preseason.

2013 SuperCoach Score Prediction: 95-100

nice write up m8 gave you a cheer ;)

wont start with him but if he drops in price a bit might be an upgrade target

Would probably rather take the punt on Cloke at around 70k cheaper personally.

Dont think starting with tomahawk would be a great move even if you could predict a big season.
As a forward he is destined to have a dry patch at some stage with a few sub par scores and hopefuly a shocker or 2 that means you can pick him up at basement price

That's a +2.

Great write up, thanks.

nice write up. He'll have a big year for sure, but quite a risky pick, as is the case with all tall forwards. Agree quinny.

He's had a great year, but Buddy will be my only KPF.
