Below is a list of the AFL team of the century named in 1996 and what my question is "Have there been any players since the naming of this team displayed enough skill to replace any one member of this team?". I have heard some journalists note that Matthew Scarlett, Dustin Fletcher or Wayne Carey have proved their worth to be named in this side ahead of some of these members, what do you think? please leave a comment.

Carey would be the only one I would put in at this stage

AFEV

OUT: Silvagni
IN: Regan

It's fixing a mistake instead of new players that have risen to that height, but still think it's a change they should/could make.

The other one being Carey IN but not sure who you'd take out.

kilbluff1985

reckon half those players would get suspended in the 1st quater if they played with current rules lol

^ This.

Honestly, how can you have a Team of the Century with a Collingwood player? The team that won more games than any other team over that period, won 14 flags, etc. That was a huge joke.

Yeah, Carey seems likely. Gary Ablett jnr is becoming hard to argue against also.

Of course Hird/Buckley/Voss/Riccutio/Harvey etc... But that becomes judgement calls.

None of Buckley, Voss, Scarlett (over-rated) etc deserve to be in because they didnt play in that century.

I think we were saying in the 15+ years since, would any current day players make that team

Sos will never be taken out, he is regarded as the best full back to play the game by most people and he played on the best forwards to ever play the game.
Collingwoods win/loss ratio has nothing to do with the team of the century. Its an individual honour. Although it is surprising that no Collingwood players feature.
Guys like Voss, Buckley and Hird will need time to pass before they are considered. The longer someone is out of the game the higher they are looked upon lol
