Beau Waters - West Coast Eagles

Position: DEF

Price: $471,300 (Fanplanner)

2011 Games: 8

2012 Games: 19

2011 Average: 68.3

2012 Average: 91.6

2012 Tons: 6 (and 4 x 90's)

Summary: Waters was a very popular pick for 2012, after an elbow injury in 2011 limited him to just 8 games, and a 68 average. Bargain. He is very consistent with only 2 scores under 70 (one of them injury affected), and has a high ceiling with 3 of his tons being 120+. The only real concern about Waters is obviously his durability. Since his debut in 2004, he has only once played 20 games or more in a single season, and has only played more than 10 games in 4 seasons. He was the 5th highest averaging defender this year (without Deledio & Carrots as they will be pure mid) and providing he stays fit, should be a lock for the top 7 defenders.

Verdict: Love the way he plays, but I think he may start slow after having foot surgery and a limited pre-season - upgrade target.

Ad's predicted average: 90

Jukes

Waters' last 5 seasons; 19 games played, 8, 21, 8, 19...he's due for an 8 this season.

Injury hoodoos aside, a no for me. Better backline premiums who I can see both averaging more and gaining more average.

Yeah, much better value to start with in Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Birchall, Duffield & Heppell. Will look at him as an upgrade target.

Agree, especially those first 3. I may bring him in as an upgrade target if he doesn't get injured. The trouble is the way he plays he is more likely to get injured than other backs.

Football Factory

Likes to take those contested marks where he jumps backwards into a pack  :o  .. great player very courageous but only an upgrade option for me.

Spinking

I would pick him, but that price is very high for a bloke who is unlikely to play all games.

Windigo

One of the better defenders going around.

But I'd prefer someone who is more durable. Especially in crunch late season games.  :-\

Shihan7

Got quite a few defenders ahead of him after having foot surgery, durability is a massive issue :-\
Hope he kills it for our Asians though Ada ;)
