Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow can't wait to begin his first unrestricted pre-season in three years

FREMANTLE midfielder Michael Barlow says he has finally reached the end of a 24-month recovery from his broken leg and can't wait to get into his first unrestricted pre-season in three years.

While the former Werribee Tiger played all 24 games for the Dockers this season, for the first half of the campaign he barely trained and battled physical pain and mental anguish as he prepared for battle each week.

He said advice from players who had previously suffered leg breaks, including Brisbane coach Michael Voss and former Richmond forward Nathan Brown, had been pivotal in helping him to understand the long road back from snapping his left tibia and fibula bones in a collision with former teammate Rhys Palmer >:( in two years ago.

"Speaking to the guys that have been through it, they reckoned it was going to be a 24-month thing,'' Barlow said.

"They acknowledged the fact that you can get back and play earlier, but you're basically rebuilding yourself and you're going to play with some soreness while you're building up strength.

"That's kind of the necessity of it, playing through that pain and getting your strength back up.

hmm was going to put him in my Dream Team but never did, but...

A fit and firing Barlow makes a case for starting him ??? am I the only one?

Considering him now...very consistent and could get back up to that 110 avg.

Looks like a very tasty fantasy option.

the only worry with Freo is Ross Lyon's game plan

Did you think about that before you wrote it?

Joey, NDS, Hayes, GODdard, NRoo all were great fantasy stars under a Ross the Boss game plan.

Barlow, Fyfe, Mundy, Pav - notice anything similar?

i don't understand why people think Ross destroy fantasy relevant players  ::)

I think the issue is for lyon to invent these new fantasy roles, he kind of has to strip players of their pre-existing ones- ala broughton 2012 :P
