It will be my second year of Dream Team so i am unsure which team approach to have.
My two teams i have planned are:

TEAM NAME: The Cooked Chooks

DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, P. Duffield, T. Smith, S. Docherty (S. Colquhoun, J. Thurlow)
MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury,J. Viney, B. Crouch (T. Mitchell, J. O'Meara)
RUC: A. Sandilands, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, J. Daniher)
FWD: L. Franklin, S. Johnson, J. Lewis, M. LeCras, A. Krakouer, S. Mayes, J. Stringer (M. Shaw I. Stevens)

CASH LEFT:$109,200

and

TEAM NAME: The Cooked Chooks

DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, P. Duffield, T. Smith, S. Docherty (S. Colquhoun, J. Thurlow)
MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury,L. Ball, B. Crouch (T. Mitchell, J. O'Meara)
RUC: A. Sandilands, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, J. Daniher)
FWD: L. Franklin, S. Johnson, N. Bock, R. Gray, M. LeCras, S. Mayes, J. Stringer (M. Shaw, I. Stevens)

CASH LEFT:$186,600

The differences have been highlighted.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Mr.Craig

I prefer the first one but have a couple of suggested changes.

Viney's DT scoring potential isn't that high in my opinion. I think Whitfield, Hrovat, Wines, Toumpas, Kennedy etc. all have better cash cow qualities. Lewis got a number of tagging jobs this season and his scores were really up and down. I can see that continuing so it might be worth picking Roughead who is very consistent, has a similar ceiling and you get the added bonus of the DPP link with Daniher.

Thanks Mr Craig

I initialy had Pav (being a Freo supporter), but decided to see how he goes and maybe upgrade to him later, and wasn''t sure whether to change him to Roughhead or Lewis, but you make a good point on Roughy.

Is there any suggestions with the left over $165k from including Hrovat, or just save it?

Mr.Craig

Ball at $266,500 has the potential to put on 200k but you'll always want to trade him out to ensure you have the top 7 mids anyway. Conversely someone like Hrovat who is basement priced and averaging 103.6 in the TAC this year could rise 300k if he's given the right opportunities. Plus you'll have that extra 170k to invest in another position.

On the other hand I can see the argument for picking Ball, especially if he does end up at that starting price. He could be every bit as valuable as Ebert was this season. Just one thing to keep in mind however, you'll have 3 Pies in the midfield if you go with Swan and Pendles too which might be an issue with the byes.

Mr.Craig

Ha, you changed your message while I was writing mine. ;D

Yeah, check out my rookie thread in Players And Trades for some ideas. Plenty of great mid options about.

Clyde Frog

Haha sorry about that.

Thanks again. I've just been browsing through that rookie thread, good work.

Adamant

Number one for me, but do you have enough to turn Kraks into Gray?

From the advice given and after reading Mr Craig's rookie thread i am leaning towards something like this:

TEAM NAME: The Cooked Chooks

DEF: B. Goddard, J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, P. Duffield, S. Docherty, J. Ballard (S. Colquhoun, J. Thurlow)
MID: D. Swan, G. Ablett jnr, T. Cotchin, S. Pendlebury, B. Kennedy, B. Crouch (J. O'Meara, N. Hrovat)
RUC: A. Sandilands, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, J. Daniher)
FWD: L. Franklin, S. Johnson, J. Roughead, R. Gray, M. LeCras, S. Mayes, J. Stringer (I. Stevens, M. McDonough)

CASH LEFT: $129,600

Changes are highlighted.

Thanks for the help and feel free to add more opinions.

Mr.Craig

Pretty similar to my current squad -

TEAM NAME: Hawks Nest

DEF: J. Grimes, B. Gibbs, G. Birchall, P. Duffield, A. Mackie, L. Plowman, J. Ballard (S. Colquhoun, J. Thurlow)
MID: D. Swan, D. Beams, T. Cotchin, J. Redden, L. Whitfield, J. Toumpas (O. Wines, B. Kennedy)
RUC: I. Maric, M. Leuenberger (B. Grundy, J. Daniher)
FWD: L. Franklin, D. Stanley, J. Roughead, R. Gray, M. LeCras, D. Menzel, S. Mayes (J. Stringer, M. McDonough)

CASH LEFT: $21,400

To be honest I think I like the look of your side better. Can we swap? :P

Looks good Mr. Craig. Just interested to know your thoughts behind Mackie? He's averaged under 80 the last 2 years, and at 28 cant really see him improving...

EDIT: Mackie would have averaged 82 without that sub-affected 19.

Mr.Craig

Sorry Clyde Frog, don't mean to hijack your thread but I just wanted to address Adamant's question.

I watched him carefully in the final vs Freo and I felt like he still had a bit to offer. You know what your getting with him which I like. Having said that, I am trying to adjust my side to replace him with BJ. ;)

Yeah, he is quite consistent and woud be great if he got back to 10' form.
Back to you Clyde Frog, the teams looking great now. Like the choice of Sandi in the ruck...looks like he will be a unique, and you will be laughing if he manages to stay fit. Also reckon Duffman will go back to avg 85-90+ (averaged 88 this year, if you exclude his sub-affected games).

Thanks Adamant. I heard Sandi had steel plates put in both of his boots to protect his toes, so if he stays fit he could be a big POD seeing as many people probably won't take the risk.
