You do have the 'save a copy in my outbox' box ticked?

I think this is how you put them on
Goto your messages and click on the preferences tab.
Go to change settings and tick the bos were it says
Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default

Are you checking the box to save a copy? If so then maybe you have reached the limit of sent items you can have saved. ???

I can still see all the sent items that I've saved.
