Congratulations to all winners announced at Club dinner last night with Joel Patfull winning the Murray/Merrett Club champion medal. Joel Patfull is no longer the quiet achiever who does his job taking on 2nd or 3rd tall most weeks often giving away centimeters and holding his own. 2nd and 3rd places were filled by Daniel Rich and Pearce Hanley.  Rich may have come out on top if not for the 2 week suspension.

Dayne Zorko (no surprise here) won Rookie of the Year,
Jack Reddan won both the Members and Players Player of the Year
Andrew Raines (bit of a surprise here but deserved) won Most Professional Player of the year.
Joel Patfull also took out the most courageous player of the year.
Robert Walls was awarded life membership of the club.

In a sign for a feature 5 debutants in the 2012 season were recognized. Again well done to all.

Have to say Redden not finishing top 3 is a bit surprising.

Missed out by .5 but still...

Sorry how does the Lions fairest and best voting work to allow for .5 of a point?

This may explain the half votes Luv

"The Club Champion voting system rewards consistency, excellence, durability and team contributions, and is appropriately decided upon by those people who know the players' assigned roles best - the coaches.

The Lions Match Committee convened every Monday morning throughout the season to give each player's performance a rating out of five - including half votes. "

For those that are concerned with Reddan not finishing Top 3 he did start the season very slowly and was not in tjhe top 8 at the conclusion of Round 10.

Good job to Patfull, he has done a great job for us this year and normally doesn't get any of the recognition he deserves. He did a huge job in defense this year with Merrett often up forward and Maguire injured a lot.

Seems like a very odd voting system to me. You said they rate each player out of 5, but the majority of players don't even receive a rating. Are they saying that many players played so badly they didn't even deserve a rating?

For example in round 1 20 players were given a rating, whilst 2 players missed out, in total 49 points were awarded that round. But the very next round only 7 players got a rating, with a total of 10.5 points awarded. Then in round 19 only 4 people got ratings with 5 points given.

Seems very weird to me... ???

It is a complicated system CF and i do not really understand it either.  It is not compulsory for all players to receive votes either. A couple of years ago when we were really thrashed in one round only 3 players received votes.

Did not realise how comoplicated it was until I did some research to enquire how.  been this way for quite a few years though but with the number of half votes in the top 10 this year really highlights it.

Yeah looks very complicated, but I guess if it works for them then no need to change it.

By the way ringo, care to respond to my trade proposal? ;)
