Trades help - are Beams and Swan essential?

Current team is
Lids, Goddard, Waters, Heppell, H.Shaw, Birchall, Darley (S.Shaw, Spurr)
Ablett, Boyd, Jelwood, Mitchell, Rockliff, Zorko (Williams, Couch)
Jacobs, Giles (Orren, Redden)
Sidey, Franklin, Robbo, Danger, Zaha, Pav, Martin (Treloar, Cameron)

To finalise my team I am thinking of going
Redden--->$85G rook.
Treloar----> Swan
Martin ----> Beams

I could go for a cheaper mid upgrade(eg Thommo), leave my forward line as is, and have cash/trades for a premium defender. But I feel like Beams and Swan are essential, even though they come at a cost.

Any advice appreciated.

just recon something has to give once all 4 are available....they can't all get 35+touches + 2 goals  each week ....  can they ??

i put beams in last week even though he had a bye just didnt wanna loose money on Horsley and ive had Swan from the start. I think both are important to have in your team. This week ive gone Trelor to Gibson and Mcdonald to Thompson to finish my mids

There shaping as essentials. Who could replace Beams & Sidey if you don't have 'em. Think about it.  ;)

i had to do a bit of a sideways trade this week to finish of my collingwood foursome thats how important i think it is to have swan, pendles, beams & sidebum. Now i cant wait till they all play together ;D

Since you already have sidey, I don't think you need beams AND swan. I'd go for swan if I coild choose one, as once pendles comes back too he will continue to score highly but beams will drop off a little. I have sidey and swan, and instead of getting beams as my last forward I'll probably get stevie j or chappy instead.

All good teams should have at least 2 of sidey beans and swan imo.

henry - not that much advantage for me to go Chappy or Stevie J - they are almost as expensive as Beams

The thing is they tag pendles and swanny who handle tags well, so sidey and beams are constantly free

Beams has taken Balls role but has younger legs in doing that job. I don't think he'll be affected by any of the other 3. They are all playing a different type of role. IMO its about comparing Pendles with peers from other teams if you are making the decision. Thompson (harder at contested ball than Pendles) and Watson are the real comparisons. Both averaging more than Pendles....albeit not by much...3 and 8 points.
