Hi all,

Just wondering what peoples games plans are for 2010....

My Question like alot of teams is:

1. Rookies - How can you be sure they will play? Will it cost you a trade/$/donuts.

2. Should you spend every dollar at the start ok keep alot of cash incase.

3. Will you be trading rookies/mid price players up to prem's.

4. Will you make trades in the first 4 rounds?

5. How many trades will you need come finals. ( I got burnt on this one last year... lol)

6. What is the max amount of players from one team will you have? ( I got burnt on this last year too, thanks saints! hahaha)

I know it's early but I am sure you all have a plan that you follow.... ;D

Dees for the Draft

1.  You can't be sure they'll play, but try to have at least one rookie who is likely to play 15-20 games (ie. top draft pick in a side that is building for the future)

2.  Cash is a personal preference.  I prefer to have cash left over, in case my first trade is to replace an injured player.  If you don't have cash left over, as soon as a midpriced player goes down, you can either sideways trade (not recommended) or downgrade to a rookie.  I like the idea of having cash to upgrade to a fallen premium if I want to.

3. Absolutely, that's how you play the game.  I'm going to be really careful about when I trade though.  I'm prepared to lose a game or two in order to get the right player at the right price.  I regreted not trading Brown etc in at the right time last year, and trading Bartel in too early when he was a little cheaper later.

4. Hopefully none - rookies haven't maxed out, and if I'm trading in the first four rounds, either I've made a mistake in picking my initial team or I've copped a long term injury.

5. Ideally four

6. I'd set my limit at around five, but it's not a hard and fast rule.  If good player is available at the right price, I'll bring him in regardless of the team.

Here's a few things that I think will be important:

- be prepared to "throw" a match rather than burning trades

- don't trade in players because you've got the cash to, wait until they have a poor score and then trade them in.

Good points Dees - I think the biggest problem is trying not to trade (save trades), every time I login I want to trade!  ;D

I won all my games last year but lost the final. This year I'll take a loss to save them trades!!!!

Not sure on 5 players from 1 team, the saints killed it for me last year and I had about 5 of them....

Dees for the Draft

You were just unlucky.

You probably would've been stuffed if you had 3 Saints and your opponent didn't anyway.  Everyone is struggling at that stage, so even a few omissions hurt.  Last year was a one off (hopefully), and it's not worth wasting good players just because they're on a team that you've already got some of.

1.  You can't be sure.  All you can hope is that you pick the right kids before everyone else.  As a general rule, look for mature age drafts or kids with a mature build (Morabito) in teams that are rebuilding

2.  I like to keep $150K to $200 to ensure that my first trade isn't a sideways move.  As a general rule during the season though you want as much money out on the field scoring you points.  Don't hoard it.

3.  No, I enjoy losing

4.  I'll generally make a couple to snare players sitting on large rd 3. increases.  Last year I got Sam Gilbert doing this.

5.  Four would have been nice last year - but I needed them all in the GF so it wouldn't have helped anyway....

6.  Hopefully no team pulls away from the pack far enough this year to feel comfortable resting half their team.  Max 4-5 from gun teams.  Max 1-2 from bottom feeders - and even then just the kids (exceptions - Pavlich & Delidio) and try and incorporate as many teams as possible to spread the risk.

Trav0

nobody over 30
no interupted pre-season
minimal injury prone players(cant discount them all)

those are the 3 reasons i ran out of trades last year!

im taking it 1 step further and making maximum age 28yo at the start of the year

CFC 1979

keep am eye on the NAB cup scores for your rookies

i try to keep @ 200 000 in the kitty

that will depend on if the rookie turns out to be a keeper ( ie rich )

no trades in 1st 3 rounds. injury/form depending for 4

at least 4 trades come finals

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT EXCEED 5 ( even 5 is too much ) Just read an article on S/C scoring system. Each game allocated a certain amount of points so too many from one team and eventually you will have 2 bad players. Can't give you the site. it would be rude to mOnty. Geez the roaches are bad at this time of year

bunyip

Top 10 draft picks and mature age rookies are a reasonably safe bet for reserves. Pay close attention to  the NAB cup and practice match form. Some players are getting big wraps already but I think it's a bit early at this time to think about recruiting them

the saints killed alot of people. i had 7..... and they rested 6 of them
