Shortage of Quality Forward/Back Rookies

With Trengrove and Bastinac seemingly moving into midfield positions it has once again limited the options of emergencies and on field rookies for the forward/back positions.

I've been thinking about this and it seems to be the case each year (well this time of the year at least). While there usually is the odd surprise come NAB Cup and the regular season (see Ziebell, Broughton Grima etc) it raises the question of whether these positions should be stacked with your 'keepers' or Premiums if you will.

I'd be interested to see the statistics (and I'll be doing my research over the past few editions of the Prospectus) to investigate the average price rise for first year players and rookies priced players in each respective position. We all know the rucks are useless when it comes to making cash, but is it worth playing three first year players on the field in the midfield, weather the early season striuggles in order to build a better side come the end of the season?

I've had a bit of a play with this method and by stacking the forwards and backs it may take out some of the heartache of finding quality upgrades for the backs/forwards (at the right price) when the time comes and focus on the abundance of quality midfield upgrades during the year.

uh in short, yes depending on NAB cup looks like a thin midfield just 3 prems and a solid backline and fwd line

The rookies and second year rookies are there, just have to find them, NAB cup will help.

Everyone is worried about the premium rookies, I reckon maybe 1 or 2 of them, see a bit value with the mature age picks myself, and they don't cost $170,000 either.

Is Scully even going to start? I thought he was coming off a knee?

This morning I threw together a solid looking side using 1 rookie starting back and forward, and 2 starting in the mids. My emergencies are all either rookies or injury prone guys like Gumby and Rusling but these can change once I've seen what guys can do in the NAB cup.

I'll post my new side in the "Rate My Team" section for comment.

Kewell,

I'm a great believer in the "midfielders are a dime a dozen" theory. You can always find a suitable upgrade in the mids, any week of the season there are "value" picks with price drops or further potential.

Therefore, I concentrate more on getting the right premium forwards and backs at the start, and having the right "cheap" players there as well who can increase enough to enable the upgrade when a price drop player (especially a forward) becomes ripe.

If you can get your forward and back line set, the mids can look after themselves - there are just so many, and so many with "value".

Good Luck, enjoy your fantasy footy.

Are you starting with Goddard in the backs prospector?

Prospector_1

Not in current plan, incog, but only because I was waiting for the positional dust to settle.

I didn't fancy him in the midfield, for the very reasons I set out!.

It will be time for a new version soon, and it'll probably have Goddard in the backline. Surely he's THE #1 backline lock?

Yup, I'm thinking he may be as well, but at a price :(

Good premium value in the backs, Hodge, Gilbee even Fisher, then the cheapies Ladson, Hunt, Kenelly, tough getting them all in.
