I dunno he has bulked up considerably, looks absolutely committed, has brilliant kicking skills we all know that, should also be relatively cheap.

Thoughts?

He also has blinding pace, amazing agility for his height and will be able to concentrate fully on his pre-season, AFL this year - he is also quite cheap.  Having said all of that - and even considering I expect Melbourne to improve a lot this year, his supply may be a little limited.  I would look at Rusling (if he ever gets through a game without becoming injured, he will score well) and some of the better midfield types listed in the forward line - i would expect Trengrove and Cunnington to score way better that Watts.

I don't think he will be any good in DT for at least another 2 years or so. Just because he's put on a bit of weight doesn't mean he's automatically gonna score well in DT. I think he still needs another year or 2 to build confidence and get used to AFL footy, he's playing with the big boys now, not the school boys he's used to playing against

A bench option in SC at best.
Key position players usually take longer to develop.

Wilkopolis

I think he's worth a punt on the bench in SC.  With VCE behind him Melbourne will give him every opportunity to develop.  He'll add value and provide an upgrade option but don't expect anything more.

Considering most teams will be stacked with players returning from long term injury (Hunt, Ladson, Gumby & Hille in particular) most players wont be willing to press their luck by adding Rusling also.

I can't imagine anyone choosing Gumbo over Rusling for their bench - both are injury prone, but Rusling has actually done something in the games he has played - Gumbo hasn't yet.

Jack Watts will get games next year but don't think he'll out score other forwards at his price (got a few decent rookie forwards this year). Trnegrove, cunnington, tapscott and butcher should end up scoring more than him (tapscott will likely get game time as melbourne need to get better forwards coming in).

Gumby and Rusling are way too injury prone to get picked. Maybe as bench options at best. Both of them won't score alot as they are gonna be used as key forwards at the pies and dons. I have got to agree with Wilkopolis
here. having too many injury prone guys might either pay off big time or screw up your entire year for you. is anyone going to take a risk and pick half their team of guys returning from injury (maybe a overstatement here)?

Dees for the Draft

I think Watts will be part of my team next year.

There are a lot of good rookie forwards, but Watts will have a good year this season and get a lot more games.

I think Watts as part of a selection of rookies for 5th/6th/7th bench forwards.

good was seeing that through the red and black glasses, watts is priced pretty mcuh the same as trengrove and 2009 pick two ves a 2008 pick 1? Logic would tell us Watts isnt going to keep scoring 12 and 25 etc being the number one pick, unless he turns out to be travis johnstone, but can he, is he even physically capable to drag his sozz azz to thr 50-70 range

If he wasn't playing for Melbourne I might get him, nar on second thoughts I wouldn't get him at all!  ::)
