Are we assuming that he'll slot straight into Cats best 22???? I thought Kelly was the unsung hero of the GF and the coach may prefer him to stay back rather than return into an already strong midfield.  Harley retiring probably doesn't help Hunt either as he is 7cm shorter, so Drum looks more likely to fill that hole.  Is it possible Hunt could become the D.Johnson of the last few years?? Just filling in when injuries rack up.

Certianly will.

Hunt designated kicker.  Kelly to play further up the ground with the option to come back.  Can't see Drum ahead of Hunt just yet and wouldn't compare with DJ either.

If you watched geelong play in '09 you'd have noticed how sorely they missed that long raking kick from the kickin or the backline in general.  In a team of exceptional short - medium length kickers... Josh Hunt is prolly our one and only A Grade long kick. If hes fit, he'll be one of the 1st picked players in 2010.

In my opinion i can see drum getting a game.. Hunt will take Kellys spot in the back with Kelly getting more of a run up in the midfield. Leaving Harleys replacement to come from -
Drum - Probably recruited for this express purpose
Gillies - Being groomed to replace Scarlett in future years so may get gametime.
Laidler - Unclear as to what his role may eventually be .. potential chb.

dunno if you guys remember but David Johnson actually retired this year :)

@Andy J.  So do you see Hunt filling a role similar to Shannon Hurn at WCE?  Of the two, who do you think is the better kick?

AndyJ

I'm prolly abit biased as i watch Josh Hunt week in week out.. But Hunt would be right up there with the elites like hurn & daniel rich etc. Its one of those great undefinables. All exceptional by foot.

Geelong's gameplan over the last few years has been a real run and gun, play on at all costs blitzkrieg. Which favors quick handball and short kicking .. Josh Hunt doesnt seem to utilize his talent as often as some of us would like .. i'm guessing its due to the team tactics.  Will all hinge on how he recovers from the ACL he suffered in the nabcup final in 09. *fingers crossed*

I am liking Hunt for this season. As has been mentioned, Geelong missed him too much to not pick him in 2010. He should play a bit of the NAB Cup or NAB Challenge depending on where Geelong finish, if he plays here and does alright he is in my side for sure.

He will be one of those annoying players in SC who you hate seeing in your opponents side. He might average around 60 - 70 for a few weeks then he'll go nuts and get you 100+. At just over $200K, that's too good to pass up.

yep if he is running good and keeps getting named prob a must have at the price. yea wouldn't anticipate big scores but u get sercurity in him being an established player - bloody hell he is a premiership player!! yea i think if he plays a good ten games then its a straight swap half way thru season. prob a big if there - anyone know how he is going now???? i imagine the thinking will be to shed some kilos cos he's 100kg right??? less pressure on that knee the better- strong fella u'd back him to recover well
