This is my first attempt at DT for 2010.

B: Enright, S Fisher, Hodge, H Shaw, Broadbent, Ladson, Hunt (Sheppard, Davis)

C: Gibbs, Pendlebury, Ward, Palmer, Dangerfield, Morabito (Cunnington, L Jetta)

R: Kreuzer, Tippett (Browne, West)

F: Deledio, Higgins, B Harvey, Rioli, Ziebell, Mayne, Trengove (Lynch, Tapscott)

Backline might be a little risky with a couple of guys coming back from injuries but you'll know more after the NAB cup i guess.
Broadbent is an interesting selection as i don't think many others will have him, could be a good thing?

Dangerfield would be better used as a forward and maybe swap Morabito for Martin or Scully as i think they will get more game time and better numbers.
Cunnington would also be better used in the forward line instead of Lynch.

I don't like Harvey in the forward line, i think he's seen better days and is getting too old to contribute like he has in the past.

Rucks are a little weak, maybe swap Harvey for someone a bit cheaper with more upside and upgrade Kreuzer with ur left over cash.

Your team should start lookin pretty good with a few tweaks here and there, good luck!

Gday Clint,

Cheers for the feedback, you have done a good job of picking some flaws in my side.

I am a bit worried about having Ladson and Hunt in the defence, may have to take one or the other to limit my risk. I am very confident about Broadbent though, as I feel he is a pretty good player who will be given more opportunities next year.

I thought about a Cox/Hille ruck duo but am a bit concerned about Hille's durability ( he is massive value I realise), and also have my doubts about whether Coxy can maintain his lofty DT standards.

You have made some good points re Dangerfield and Cunnington, might have to plug them into the fwds. Not sold on Scully for R1 though, perhaps I will go with D Martin instead.

Brent Harvey is probably past his best but he is much cheaper than he has been for a long time and watching B Johnson rekindle his DT scores in '09 gives me hope that Boomer can do the same. Definitely risky though.

I dont agree with clint-84 about Morabito.  He has a body ready for AFL(191ish @ 90kg) and Freo are in need of strong bodied midfielders with a good kick, so I think he will play close to 22 games.

Look at Hill, his body was no where near as developed as Morabito's and he played 20odd games in 2008.

Although I do think that Martin and Scully will also get lots of games and game time.

The dilemma for me with the mid rookies is Morabito looks to be the most developed physically of the main contenders (Scully, Trengove, Martin etc), yet the others would appear to get more of the ball but mightn't play early on. I guess if you look at 07, 08 and 09 the common thread is that the biggest bodied mid ended up being the mid rookie you needed to have.

@ valkorum

It's just whether or not Morabito can rack up the numbers or not which concerns me. I think, like Hill he will play most games but i also think the others mentioned will too.
Looking over the U/18 stats where it shows Morabito averaged 66.6 and guys like Scully, Trengove, Cunnington, Tapscott and Lucas all averaged 87 or better.
If these are a good indication then the other guys will probably be better value.

@ Clint-84

Remember that guys like Scully etc have only played against other kids, where as Morabito has played against men.  That does make a difference.

It also depends on the role that each will get, so as always keep an eye on the NAB to see how they all go

#7
those stats are for the U/18 comp so that indicates Scully and co did better against other guys their own age than Morabito did.
If he could only average 66.6 against 17 and 18 year olds what is he gonna average against seasoned AFL footballers? i'm guessing half that

Keep in mind how strong the overall WA team was across all lines.  They were quite dominant in all area's so the load was shared across more players, therefore lower DT numbers for most WA players.

Clint-84

So how come all the dominant teams in the AFL have a good spread of high scoring DT players?
Have a look at Geelong's midfield for example, they all get good numbers every week.
There were 5 players who averaged more disposals per game in the WA side than Morabito.
