So is it just me or does anyone else agree that playing Rockliff forward is the height of stupidity on the Lions behalf?

I watch almost every game, and so many times this year I have seen the Lions do really well and Rockliff rack up the possessions and clearances in the midfield for a quarter here and a quarter there, then be moved forward, and do NOTHING because the Lions stop winning clearances, stop even competing and get blown out of the game.

Now I know the Lions are a little light on up FWD as the youngsters develop, or rather fail to develop but this tactic of using Rockliff forward, just doesn't seem to work. The opposite in fact it seems to seriously HURT their chances in games.

Is Voss a complete idiot or am I missing something? Because the last I checked Rockliff was a far better midfielder than Crisp....

I'm not a Lions supporter but I am born and bread in Brisbane and would prefer my "home" team to be doing well, and this has frustrated the shower out of me ALL SEASON!

Can not agree more Collie. Know he can take a strong mark and give us something up forward but as you say effects the mid field.
Have noticed by attending games when Rocky moves forawrd Adcock seems to move to the midfield so this is a double whammy.

Am hoping now that Lisle has been elevated that he steps up and stops this stupidity. Do not like the use of Rocky at all. Think I am not alone in saying Voss great player but still a lot to learn as a Coach.  This decision is nearly as bad as playing Rich across HB early in the season.
This is the midfield I would like to see dveloped for our future - Reddan, Rich, Rockliff, Zorko, Beams and this may surprise Josh Green. All these players are under 22 so could be an exiting unit in a couple of years.

In saying that not sure how much input Mark Harvey has had into the decision as he has been looking after the forwards.

Just think that it would be better to put time into one of the three Cornelius, Karnezis or Lisle and give them an extended run to develop rather than the rotations we see at the moment.

Rant over and as you know a  real supporter of the Lions,

Pretty sure Rocky was recruited as a FWD.

No one wanted him the draft because he broke his leg and wasn't what you call  a "legitimate FWD."

He was and he was the leading goal kicker at TAC cup level and also won the Bushrangers B&F (played with Ziebell, Sidebottom and Sam Wright). The reason he did not get drafted was they thought he did not have the pace to play at AFL level and also had endurance issues. I remember reading an article on it. He has the ability to play as a forward but he is a better midfielder. It would be like playing Ablett as a forward for large chunks of the game. He can do it but it is not the best option for the team.

he may have potentially been a great fwd and he probably still is, nothing to stop him "going forward", but i just think 2012 showed us what a star he can be in the midfield, and i think 2011 has shown us how much the Lions midfield suffers without him in it.

@ Ringo, Green not a surprise to me , he is another mid that can go forword, reminds me of Hawthorns Young, another star in the making.

The biggest problem for the lions is HARD in and under mids, there is Redden, but when Black goes maybe Zorko can step up into that role, but think he is brilliant on the outside.

the way i see it they have.

inside - redden black

outside - rockliff rich zorko

tagger - raines

there are all the others but i think those are the ones that are already at the required level.

Last year Red-Rock had pretty similar numbers except Redden had better disposal when going inside FWD 50.
