How are Geelong premiers in 09?

With the obvious flaws present in the Geelong side, how did they manage to win the cup this year? Whilst the superior side in Hawthorn didn't even make the finals?

I mean, look at all these fantastic points as to why Geelong are a terrible side and shouldn't have even made the finals in '09.

- an aging, over-rated backline that is crumbling fast and can't handle a complete forward line like Hawthorn's
- a midfield that is going to get worked out for its over-reliance on handball and lack of long-kicking ability
- a gameplan that requires complete dominance by the midfield to work due to the crapitude of the forwards, much the same as the Eagles a couple of years ago... drop off 10% and they're cactus
- a forward line that relies too much on manufacturing goals from strings of handballs with the goal kicked from the square, masking a lack of kicking accuracy
- a talisman in Chapman who it seems is always either just about to twang his hammy for three weeks, on the sidelines, or underdone due to a previous hammy twang
- the best forward in the side in Johnson thinking too much about the lookaway handball to a lesser player and not enough about sacking up and kicking goals himself
- a "MVP" player in Ablett who, despite having insanely good skills and god-given evasive abilities, still makes bad decisions, most of them involving handballing instead of kicking
- a spud in Mooney
- a coach in Thompson who freezes under the pressure of finals with no plan B, making zero tactical changes even when facing losing scorelines
- a list that is starting to look shaky in the all-important 17-22 range, with players like Varcoe, Hunt, Taylor, Kelly, Lonergan and Blake just not able to contribute enough in big games with the pressure on

:o

How did Hawthorn do this year Monty? Aren't going back to back? Too cool for that?

roo boys!

Firstly, I thought you went for Geelong? And Harry Taylor, yeah he isn't able to contribute enough in big games. What? Last time I checked, he was the guy that shut Reiwolt down and won Geelong the game. I wouldn't really call that not contributing. I bet you're just doing this to suck up to m0nty. Correct?

haha. Not at all sir. Reading your post makes me so happy, especially your comments about Taylor.

That list of comments was not made by me. It was made by mOnty last year after the GF and posted on BigFooty. This post was to highlight how well a Geelong side with so many flaws was able to do compared to his awesome hawks.

Evene if he said so later in the year, mOnty was unable to accept Geelongs greatness.

well most of those facts are kinda true. especially the mooney one. But he is also right about needing the midfield to do well for them to win.

Pretty sure Mooney kicked more in the GF than Riewoldt and Kosi.

Which is funny considering all the crying saints fans were doing about the weather affecting big forwards.

so your saying if i have a shocking year then score a few goals in the GF (and im the winning team) makes up for my bad season?

Selwood4brownlow

what a load of showere

all of those points make no sense and arent true at all. Ablett is the best player now and 50 years later he will be thought as one of the best players to ever play along with bunton, skilton, gablett snr, barrassi, matthew, goodes and judd

POW, CHAZZ MICHAEL MICHAELS IS FIGURE SKATING

So you're saying you'd rather a player do amazing all season and then contribute nothing in the GF? Mooney did what was needed of him, Riewoldt and more specifically Milne and Schnieder did not.

You have to kick goals to win a game.
