As the title states, is picking a rookie not many other people have a good risk to take ? An example that sticks out to me is Savage last year, I dont think many people had him (except me ;))

And where did you come as a result of it? haha

For sure!

The value lies in picking the right rookies.

That you had Savage suggests you did some homework and didn't just follow the crowd with your rookie selection.

for uniques its simple, if they turn out bad, your behind the pack and if they turn into jets, alot will jump on round 2 (like curnow) and you save a trade.

option 1 just because Harvey cost me from coming in the top 20 in Victoria schools comp!

Just get the obvious ones for the bench, when picking on the field is when you choose to be different. If you want. I personally am not taking risks in rookies, i'll happily get whatever money comes from them. :)

I think the idea is to make as much cash as you can out of the rookies. Being different can either give u a slight edge or get you burnt. Just dont pick unique rookies for the fact that they are unique, but because you feel they will have better scoring potential than the most popular picks.
At the ends of the day, it's how you use that money that matters.

Depends.  If they turn out like Trent McKenzie, then it's great.  If they end up being like Claye Beams and Rohan Bewick, not so much...  ::)

ideally youd want a unique rookie to just do enough to keep you interested say 40-45 for the first few weeks , then step it up while still on your bench to say 60 for a few weeks , then explode to 90+

that way he stays unique

otherwise as stated above if he explodes out of the blocks everyone is on him before price rise so you save a trade , the value is buying and selling at the right time and turning rookies into premos
