i am having real trouble filling my sides holes with rookies in pretty much everywhere apart from rucks.

has anyone got a good list of rookies i can look into, that are looking like they are playing round 1.

im not expecting crystal ball stuff, but a list of hopefuls would be good.

Me too. Lots of GWS boys have already been named by Sheedy for R1. Problem is most will be rotated and/or not score well.
Mohr should play most games but looks like being the fullback.Bugg looks OK.
Clifton,Coniglio(pricey),Miles and Sheil, should be regulars McDonald should score well but only play Half or less of the season. Treloar,Hampton and Smith may be good DPP options (FWD/MID).
There were lots of GC rooks but only Swallow,Stanley,Harris and Zac Smith from memory were great cows, it will again be hard to pick the right ones.
From other teams I also struggle to see who will be good rooks. Magner was looking good until his injury.Neale and Spurr look OK but not many spots up at Freo. Mitchell from the swans won't be ready. Walsh(swans) will struggle to get a spot as he is adjusting to the oval ball same with Marty Clarke. Weedon may sneak in to WC with Le Cras out but is ideal for the vest.Koby Stevens is fighting Masten over Eberts spot. Zorko may be a late starter due to injury.Saad has to Squeeze into a role in a team which Milne,Gram and Shneider already own.Port coach said Wingard needed to build his match fitness more first. Haven't seen much of Kyal Horsely.Or Docherty.Or Sierakowski. Smedts has talent but looks like he is struggling at this level and also has a tough team to break into(with Hogan,Guthrie,Mackie etc)so who is there?

Thought of more. Brown(Crows) hasn't been sighted although Kerridge could be in R1. Pfeiffer yet to be elevated.Kavanagh won't break into the Bombers mids as easily as Heppel did in defense. Maybe Ledger or Cripps get a start at the Saints?  Most rookie decisions will be made in the short window between the teams being named and the season start. Ellis looks like a likely starter but there's Morris and a heap of other Tigers backs also possibles for the back six.

I like most of your points, (cheer for you  ;) ) however, just a few things I'd like to add.

Wouldn't pay much attention to this until the teams are named for round 1. That's the time to decide about the GWS boys.
Neale's injured, won't see him for a few rounds I'm afraid
Agree, Longmire already said the Swans will take every precaution with their prized recruit following his knee tendonitis, probably won't be ready until 3-5 rounds into the season.

McDonald will play more than half the season. I don't believe the hype about him not playing - he's under the salary cap, so GWS won't rest him for 50% of their games. They also would want him to lead by example - the rookies can't learn much from him while he's sitting in the stands. They're already stressing with Brogan and Power out. They'll need someone to help the rookies learn.

Clifton, agree. Miles, Coniglio, agree agree. Shiel, agree.
Shiel, still recovering from his operation, but SHOULD be good for round 1 - round 2 at the latest.
Magner however, may still be right for round 1 - I haven't heard any details confirming how bad his finger is.
Brendan Lee from Essendon may get elevated, watch out for him. If he does - he's going straight into my midfield, I personally think he's a great player even though I've heard others disagree.

Ellis in defence should be a lock. Been killing it. I'd go for Darley in defence as well.

Smedts has talent - agree, but I think he'll have fantastic JS.
"GEELONG coach Chris Scott will this season continue an in-principle agreement calling for a quota of players per senior game to have 50 matches or less experience in a bid to drive the club's quest to remain an AFL superpower.
This meant there has to be four players per game that had played less than 50 games."
