league win or overall win. the differences are..?

could someone please give me the low down on what the differences are between, 'going for a league win' or the 'overall win.'

Going for league win is winning the Leagues you are in with SC ie winning against the other 17 players in your league.
Overall is winning the $50k.  Some players have a goal of getting into a top group as well eg Top 100, Top 5000 etc.
Reason it is asked is that leagues do not start until round 3 and it is important during the byes with how many donuts you are prepared to wear.
