3 Premium DEF Strategy

What are people's thoughts on this?

It allows for premium MID/RUCK/FWD setups from the get-go and there seems to be less depth and reliability in the DEF premiums this year regardless, even under the previous structure I was operating by (3 premium DEF and 1 mid pricer - Grimes) I've been able to bolster my stocks significantly everywhere else by trading him down (to Tomlinson).

I don't know that I subscribe by the theory that MID rookies will always score/rise in price the fastest either, this year particularly, a lot of the promising MID rookies are also listed as FWD's (Couch, Kerridge, Zorko, Pfeiffer).

Justin Bieber

This is exactly what I'm doing. 3 prems then grimes as mid pricer. I'm sure this is what a lot of people are doing. Yeah like you said you can get 4 solid mids, two solid rucks and 5 solid forwards doing it with this

MorningFresh

Yep, that was my original strategy, but now I'm considering the 3 Premiums and no mid pricer in DEF to bolster my stocks elsewhere. The only issue with this is/will be the quality of the MPP rookie DEF/MIDs, if only Bugg were a MID as well...

Who do you have in the Ruck?

Justin Bieber

Yeah I changed and have put in Giles, but initially mummy and burger.

the back rooks are ok, but between them and the fwds you could struggle for good rooks.

Morris and Ellis and Smedts and tomlinson may all be safe bets, bugg darley and blee too, wilkes meh who knows and a few others.

back rooks dont score the best tho so i wouldnt want too many could be disasterous?

I am going to go

2 elites (goddard/delidio)
1 premium (heppell)
2 midpriced (conca/howard)
4 rooks (morris/Ellis/Bugg/Blee)

I trust conca and howard to at least make me 100-150k if they dont become 6th and 7th keepers, but there are not many defender rooks i can trust to do the same....

agree with you guys on teh idea of saving premium dollard in teh back line tho it just makes sense.

Justin Bieber

CW do you count Birchall as an elite?

And what about Marty Clarke or Grimes?

jabroni

this is what im doing as well

3 backs and conca and m clarke although im not sold on conca just yet and the extra cash could go to upgrading browndawg but need signs of a duigan or stanley

I am using the 3 elite DEF strategy (Godd, Lids &Shaw) + Geary. But @ CW, your defence would leave you with the same amount of keepers as mine...

for the sake of what i personaly was rating my players as i would call birchall elite, grimes mid priced and clarke rook even tho he is better and safer than a rook he costs less than buntine so class him as a rook for the sake of $$$

when i say elite i just mean the players 90% of teams would lock. which are the premiums that are trusted guns. Birchall is one, dont think heppell can be considered one but broughton may be and costs the same so its just my breakdown no science to it.

Oh when I said Grimes and Clarke, I meant where are they? Why aren't why considering them in your team. My bad...

sorry i misunderstoond and i do have clarke not blee, i was quoting from memory. But cant have Grimes and conca and howard, i rate grimes higher but the price is higher too and i am looking at midpricers for cashcows not keepers, for grimes price i would want to keep him, which if he stays fit you will and you'll be very happy to have started him at his price...

get on geary, had a good pre season could get heaps of cheap ball kicking out of defence and is 213k.

i think the backline again will be so generic - god lids and shaw will be everyones top3. and some will go for scotland especially after NAB first round.

D4 onwards will differ. i like broughts there personally after god lids shaw.

Torress

i don't think the backline rookies are that promising atm as well
and the best mid rookies are mid only imo!!!  neale, Jmac, magner, koby, gibson???  and if mitchell gets his body together will be a sweet downgrade.

alot of the dpp rookies have questionable JS atm as well.

This year I feel trading will make the difference in scoring.

Too many duds last year in initial team due to hype.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff is key.

Agree with JS and DPP but boy are they tempting considering bye set up this year and new slightly softer trade rules.

Besst of luck.
