Ive noticed that a lot of teams selected have the DPP's in forwards and defence and none in the midfield. Is this due to the new trading rules and if so how are you all going to use DPP to cover short term injuries in the midfield?

Speculator

If you think the new trading rules will allow you to not have DPP links in the mids you are kidding yourself. I've heard a few people say this but if you need to utilize the new trading rules to activate DPP does it not defeat the purpose of DPP? I.e. cover donuts without trading?

This is the point of my thread. That everyone seems to be ignoring the fact you need DPP's in the mids as well or am I missing something?

if you have DPP you could trade said underperforming mid into defence and upgrade defender and vice versa

Well most teams do not have a DPP  in the mids so it is irrelevant if they are underperforming!

The point is, the new trading rule means you can make a link you need halfway through the season. For an example, the mids will peak higher and maybe quicker than the forwards or backs, so you can upgrade say McDonald to Goodes/Fyfe/Whoever then switch Zorko from your forward to your mid, now you have a DPP link in the mids and you didnt miss out on any gun mid rookies from the start and you were able to upgrade your forward line player fairly soon. Also can be used for backs too obviously.

With GWS this year, there are a salivating number of pure mid-rookies that are hard to overlook (such as McDonald, Shiel, Congilio, Clifton, Miles, Kavanagh, Stevens, Wingard, etc). To have a DPP in the mid-field means one of these players (possibly DT gold) loses a spot. Meanwhile a good DPP player (eg Zorko, Pfeiffer, Luke Brown) can just as well develop in the less competitive forward / back lines.

Usually subs are sufficient to cover injuries, so you possibly sacrificing points (and potential profit) for the flexibility DPP offers (that you aren't utilizing). And if things do go pear-shaped, you can just trade in a DPP players as you need one.

By the middle of the season most of the good rookies have already made their run. You can then downgrade a pure mid or two for a DPP linking player to provide the flexibility to help cope with the dreaded byes. A good DPP downgrade target would be someone like Docherty.

Well at the moment I have Hampton and Luke Brown in the mids as forw/mid and def/mid change. But also have players like goddard, Deledio, Goodes, Robinson, Christenson, Martin and Tralour. So I think I'm fine with swapping players between positions.
