Should Barry Hall retire?

I am thinking that the biggest hurdle between BBBBH and a deal at the Doggies will be the AFLPA. The kind of contract that the WB will want to offer Baz will have behavioural clauses that the AFLPA will not allow. Benny C's contract is unique because of drugs. If the AFLPA allow a contact to be agreed upon with behavioural clauses it will open up a can of worms to the rest of the competition and would allow clubs to create contracts that provide much harsher penalties than standard australian workplace agreements in other working environments.

Did that make sense?

Eg: A clause that said if Barry was to go to the tribunal even once, or if he was suspended his contract would be terminated.

Both parties may agree, but the potential contract chaos that could permeate to other clubs would potentially create an unfair workplace for a lot of AFL players.

It's a healthy debate, I think.

Hey Hawks,

you've got a nose for IR haven't you! While behavioural clauses are anathema to the union movement, behaviour is increasingly permeating the workplace through "behavioural interviews" for recruitment, behavioural Codes of Conduct and behavioural performance reviews. I ought to know!

I'm sure the AFLPA will protect the rights of its members. Maybe a contract that is structured to allow bonuses for not having to attend the tribunal, rather than penalties if you do?

Yes, this may stimulate a very interesting and healthy debate in the footy world, and perhaps more broadly.
