Hi all,

Was listening on SEN how virtually every team is doing Clusters 18 man defensivwe zone thing and how crap the game is being played at the moment with so much defensive footy.

Anyways - what's everyone's thoughts to loading up the backs and the mids because of this and having a forward line that is predominately weaker?

Its an interesting topic.  Modern footy seems to begin by rebounding out of defence so the Fishers, Goddards, Newmans of the world excel with excellent fantasy scores.

Have to say my side has automatically gone that way ie: better players in the backline & midfield.  I have more faith in my backs and mids than I do in the forward line.  Personally I have more faith or confidence in Goddard getting regular scores above 100 than I do in Buddy doing the same.  I tend to chose forwards who use the ball more efficiently such as Deledio rather than the big KPP like Buddy & Fev.

Last season I went for a more even spread of players throughout my squad but this season I have loaded up the backs & mids.  Admittedly I have Reiwoldt, Pav & Lids in my forward line but the rest are cheaper riskier players.  Time will tell if this works or not........

Great posts guys, agree with much of that. I've always been apprehensive of specialist forwards (whether it be talls or goal sneaks) for their ability to score consistently, perhaps more so in this day and age with a greater emphasis on the defensive aspects of the game inc. flooding. Thus I'd be more incline to go with fwds that can play around the ground

That said, good power forwards can really turn it on sometimes and make those really massive scores that defenders usually don't make.

I think this pattern of thinking holds true for DT; power forwards do seem to have a place in SC though.
I've gone with premium small forwards instead; higher possession types rather than goalkickers.
Puttting a little more attention into the backline and midfield is not a bad idea and theoretically should yeild higher scores with the style of game plans evolving.

Same as me, mainly smaller forwards who play midfield roles... that way your not relying on kicking bags just to get a decent score... Richo and Reiwoldt of course would be the bigger guys i would pick.. Clarkson has said he's thinking of using buddy in a similar role to Richo, could be good, maybe bad... but therefore it shows Roughead is the go to man i reckon
