If a week is a long time in football then a month must be career defining. Roughead has taken over hales role and if Bailey can pick up a few touches to go with his hit outs Renouf could be joining him in the twos. In a months time we will find out who the best two ruckmen in the club are. on th plus side it's about time our selectors had to make some tough decisions, there job in the past 2 years has been far too easy!

Bailey isn't there yet. He probably has more talent and potential that Renouf, however at the moment Renouf's ruck work is pretty good and he is taking nice tall contested marks and that fits into the press very nicely. Bailey is still having his TOG limited so how durable he is long term is still questionable. We all hope everything works out for him but you have to be a bit pragmatic and consider alternatives.

Although Roughy has played a few good games, there have been games in the past where he has had to shoulder the ruck duties and it hasn't gone so well. 2 and a 1/2 games isn't enough to make that call one way or the other. Even if Roughy does take that role, I not am convinced that Hale has no value in the side as a fulltime forward.

I take your point on renouf, and don't get me wrong he has been a very solid player for us and gives his all at the contest. But hale as a full time forward? I doubt it. He needs to be able to contribute in more ways thanthat to keep his spot IMO. If we are looking for another full time tall forward, lisle is more than adequate for that role. Plus I recon that he would be playing now if that was there plan.

I suspect there is a chance that Lisle may come into the side this week. He was named in the squad and it could be a good way to stretch the weakened Bulldog's backline.

I like the look of Roughy playing as a 2nd ruckman. He's fairly mobile for a big guy and it also creates more space for Buddy to lead into.

So the big decision is, do you bring hale back and change what is currently working. You haves ruckman who can play forward vs a forward that can ruck.

It comes down to how things go over the next few weeks.

Will having only one tall in the forward line allow teams with taller defenders to double and triple team Buddy more easily? Will Roughy be able to physically handle having to cover the field week in week out? Will Roughy's skills in the ruck be enough against some of the premier ruckman in the comp?

I'm not convinced that Roughy in the ruck long term is the best option we have. He may well be, but we haven't seen enough of it yet to know if it will consistently work.

when hale is back i dont think he will b in the afl it wil b the vfl
we dont need roughy and hale so we go into games with roughy and renouf
or
renouf,roughed and jordan lisle

was just going to ask this.

how many games do you guys think bailey will get in the near future?

hawk_88

It is hard to say.

My guess is that they will try to give a few more games to Bailey just to help his development and re-evaluate then. I can't see them picking both Renouf and Bailey in the same team. Doesn't look right in terms of team balance. Bailey and Hale or Renouf and Hale I can see though.
